I only tip when I dine in. When I order to go and they ask me to sign and tip I hit them with the :mjpls:

Some restaurants are getting slick asking you to park outside and wait in your car so they can bring the food to you...sly way to justify a tip. I still go in cause I ain't tipping :pachaha:

Considering that you aren't forced to work there and tipping isn't mandatory I really don't care either way how someone feels. Most I'm giving is 5 and and my best friend absolutely never tips.

It's the same receipt anyways so it'll still show the tip line. I write 0 and cross it out. And always write a $ sign and line at the end so they don't try to add any extra numbers.

TO be honest I hate tipping with a passion
Cause if you think about it you're only tipping because the fukking establishment itself doesn't want to put their workers on a salary, I tip out of pity and I don't think people understand that either, subconsciously people don't tip cause it's the right thing or they have to (remember I said subconsciously) but they tip out of feeling sorry for some underpaid and usually overworked person, it's simply an act of mercy. Like the other guy said before, I'd rather tip the chefs who actually have to cook and get certified for the shyt who have a much MUCH harder time doing their job. They deserve tips.......I still tip anyway but bare minimum

the exact reason i don't like eating in, i'm not paying you to bring my food/drinks, if anything i should be tipping the cooks :yeshrug:

I'm not against tipping, it just doesn't really make much sense why people HAVE to tip. If a person gives you exceptional service and you want to tip them, by all means do it. But the expectation that one has to tip just because someone brought them their food is a little silly.

I've seen the explanation that the restaurants business model can't afford to pay their workers a non tipped wage. I don't see that as a problem for the customer. Other industries don't rely on this model because it isn't culturally accepted here in the US. But it is for restaurants. Looking at this broadly, there are very little differences between restaurants and other service industries other than the skill level required to competently do the job. Skilled service positions already have higher wages and/or have a commission structure to compensate the employee. So why don't restaurants follow this model?

Watch reservoir dogs.

Lol but for real, tipping is good since they make a different minimum wage, sometimes. Bars are different. Also, you tip your server in expectation of them sharing. Even if pooling isn't mndatory, it's proper etiquette to give cooks and bus a cut for the whole shift.

There are also other reasons to tip that are more subtle. Such as to get info, to have them not mention you were there. Etc.

However, unless you live in a city, tipping is sort of silly to me.
