Im cool with tipping, think about it like this. You waiter/waitress will now have to perform to get a resulting amount. If they had base pay there isn't any incentive to give good service. Plus, the amount of charge for the meal would increase maybe by double. Them Applebees 2 fo 20 done went to 2 fo 40.

I think we're taking away too much responsibility from the employer, especially when the entire republican economic policy is "trickle down economics." meant to benefit the business owners. Who are in turn supposed to pass along those benefits to their employees. But in this case (as well as many others) they don't. They are letting the consumer do it instead. and so those tax cuts on the wealthy meant to spur the economy ultimately amounts to nothing but further widening the gap between the upper and middle class.
If we're going to be a tipping and minimum wage culture fine, but then we shouldn't give businesses big tax breaks on top of it.
But since the country is moving in the opposite direction, it should be on the owner to pay their employee's, not the consumer.

and how did he get a tip BEFORE delivering the food? the type is supposed to be based off the service. Example he gets there exceptionally fast, you tip. If he gets there late, you don't. Then why is the tip before the delivery? That's almost like FORCING the person to tip because they'd be afraid the person might spit in their food or come late.

Damn, I forgot I made this thread lol.

I still feel the same way 6 years later. Tipping should be at the discretion of the customer. Each time I see someone argue for tipping it is always some julep masking them feeling sorry for people who make very little money and giving them extra. People should just say that instead of trying to shame others.

I tip 20% standard....shytty service 15 or less......it is what it is. I'm American; I live here; this is our social norm. When I travel if its not custom then I don't. get in where you fit in.
