I feel we conflate two diff topics at times when it comes to financials vs quality.
Not really, because I never argued the MCU is or isn't quality. The thread is about the movie flopping (financially), so i spoke in financial terms.
Did anyone mention the RT or Metacritic scores?
Fred.
That shyt really got to you b?That scene in Endgame of all the women coming together in battle still irks my nikka nerves.
This is mad racist. I was coming here to laugh at the incel allegations but you’re a walking stereotype.Shang Chi? Of all marvel characters? Oh you thought t Asians was gonna support? Nah they like seeing white heroes. Know your audience.
We have a different view of risk. For me its about hype and fandom. Moon knight was a series people were hyped for, didn't quite stick the landing as he really needs a tv ma rating, but that was a worthwhile risk. Werewolf was also a character people had genuine interest in and that was a homerun.I think there’s are a few question that needs to be asked though.
Do we really want them to not grow and just play it safe making 100 movies with the same 3-9 characters over-saturating them?
Or do we want them to take RISK? Cuz that was a faux coli complaint a few phases, “Marvel don’t take risk”
Well Agatha is a risk, Echo is a risk, Wanda was a risk, Moon Knight was a risk, Werewolf was a risk and so on.
People said they wanted something different, they provided it. Maybe you didn’t ask for it, but some did.
The marvels is likely gonna flop on all levels (financials and quality - ie RT, social media, etc).
Marvel is not as strong as they once were and I dont think that can really be denied.
Being top 10 in a weak environment doesnt really defeat the quality argument imo especially wjen you factor the praise non MCU stuff has been getting of recent, ie Video Game flicks

Echo doesn't have any fans, so much so the main writer on the series publicly said her powers are lame and is changing them entirely for her show,
and yet recieved zero backlash. Imagine if someone made a superman movie but said they are going to change superman powers because flying and shooting lasers is lame. there would be a hundred internet article questioning that decision. that show might be a success, but lets be honest we are only watching for Kingpin and Daredevil cameos.
but thats all beside the point. They have enough sure things in their deck that they don't even need to gamble right now. There are still dozens of a list characters they haven't made a film for yet, that people are highly anticipating. FF4, X-men obviously, but also a well done blade movie would bring the same feeling as the first black panther in todays climate. Daredevil is one of the most popular marvel characters and yet they are treating him like a tv property.
a well done ghostrider film would be well received. Punisher is very popular but hidden behind a streaming wall like Daredevil.
yet all these characters are taking a backseat to less popular characters
it they had replaced the og avengers with those characters, there wouldn't be a string of flops right now.
For context im going off your ant man statement, unless i read wrong you were saying it was still a win because where it ranked amongst other films for the year but i believe Disney considered it an L all things consideredFam, I'm not talking about quality at all. If Marvel does $856 mill with a 30% RT score like "Venom"....is that a win?
I'm strictly talking about box office. The OP is about the opening week end box office. If the thread turned into a quality argument after that, cool, but I'm going off the OP.
Fred.
Covid messed up logistics maybe but MArvels plans were still terrible post end game. Eternals she hulk etc simply were ass all aroundCan we atleast acknowledge that between the Pandemic and Strikes, that also fukked up a lot of the plans they had?
And that’s not even an EXCUSE to defend Marvel as I feel like more than anything those events fukked up shyt in various ways for all studios and movies.
I don’t think we giving them the proper grace.
I honestly don’t see any of these issues if everything stayed on course and we’d be in the space for X-Men/FF now.
I know people think they can just say jump and shyt happens but we never take in consideration the obligations other people that they need or even want already have.
I remember like 6 years ago it was reported Nic Cage was booked for like 20 movies
I never thought anything about the scene. I don't see why dudes in here are/were tripping over itThat shyt really got to you b?
