If Trump re-instates Tik Tok it will benefit him politically in a huge way and make Biden look like an even bigger failure than he already is.

TikTok is just the first domino of a very nasty incoming domino effect for the commoners of this country.

[Quoted tweet]
By the way, the tiktok ban paves the way to ban Discord, League of Legends, Reddit…really ANY internet communication deemed a “foreign adversary” up to the discretion of the US government.

@ivy_wylder
This is also why they want to implement the age verification for porn laws btw. It’s under the guise of “protecting children” but it’s really just setting a precedent for them to be able to control what you see online and monitor what you’re consuming. Oh, and far-right christian puritanism thrown in for good measure.

@EiratheIntern
Reddit and Discord are American Companies.

4/31
@LunacyFarm
20% ownership stake from any country we don't like is a $5k per user fine. Very normal.

@leamaric
God willing… hellfire through all these channels

@TheNooticer
Riot and Tencent next please.

good ban it all, add marvel rivals to the list

What happened to that extra 280 days we were supposed to get???

13/31
@squiddinc
Pretty based tbh

14/31
@alicesmonkey
I'm just curious about how they plan to enforce this ban.

15/31
@Tyrocks12ty
Very important to look at the bigger picture, people weren’t lying when they said we need to prepare for the future. Any sort of communication mass space between people can be compromised if TikTok is banned if it deemed as a “national security threat”

16/31
@ZeitGoetia
Discord and reddit are American companies.

17/31
@Fi7z
So we can ban X because Elon is anti-american?

18/31
@jo_youwhatmate
Literally

"What's the big deal, it's just Tiktok"

The big deal is that it sets a LEGAL precedent

19/31
@LenoreThalia
It's also a slippery slope for this to impact brick and mortar businesses as well. The government can just be like ope that country is an adversary, you have to sell or close now. Eminent domain 2.0

20/31
@RedWingsPheonix
Insane how many "patriots" are so happy about their free speech being ripped up.

21/31
@Aetreiythe
And the fact the government can bring forth “secret evidence” for consideration before the court and that evidence isn’t even seen by the governments lawyers nor is it spoken or written of in any substantive detail in the judgement or even in passing.

22/31
@MichelangeloPhD
Good

23/31
@0megalvl3vent
There will be no discretion, apples and oranges, tik tok was caught passing info after they were explicitly told not to, chances were given, China did not care.

FAFO.

?
What foreign adversary controls Discord, or Reddit, or League of Legends?

27/31
@disorderlyswine
That TT didn’t roll out the video of Romney and Blinken discussing pro-Palestinian content being the driving factor for a ban, and TT CEO Shou Chew attending the Trump inauguration, it must open the possibility of some other game being in play.

28/31
@BhutlahBobby
Or Minecraft

29/31
@havali_x
this does set a precedent which can be used in later cases against all of the above mentioned and even more, if we really think about it! fairly dangerous

30/31
@Yung_Ferengi
Please god, let me see a League of Legends ban enforced with capital punishment

31/31
@_Ellen_W
I’ve been assuming all along that was the reason the wanted to do it.

No it doesn't. How many of those are foreign owned?

These people are mad they'll have to stop making easy money for two days. Trump is bringing this shyt back on Monday or Tuesday

The ceo has a personal invite to the inauguration and parties from Donald already

If you don’t care about your personal data, that’s your choice.

But shouldn't it be in a country's best interest to their best to protect their citizens from their biggest rival? That's the entire point of national security. ~120 million people use TikTok here in the US. Imagine if they made that algorithm turn from big booty thots to government uprising movements with a simple toggle?
nikka no!

I work in IT, and it's insane how many "Cybersecurity professionals" in this field are crying over Chinese spyware being banned. TikTok literally farms your data on your device and sends it straight to the CCP.

This isn't the same as Facebook, Google, or Apple taking your data and selling it for advertisement purposes. China will force user data to be handed to them from companies without a subpoena. But fukk it; I guess the TikTok shop is more important than foreign adversaries farming data and using it to influence our population.

I used TikTok but, honestly, I knew that I shouldn't because I believe everything you said. For that reason, I knew the ban was coming.

My only wish is that either an American company buys TikTok or they copy it.

Edit:

I'll also say that TikTok has been advised for at least 5 years at this point that they needed to sell. Since at least 2019. The fact they did nothing for five years is not a good look on their part. When Microsoft was ordered to stop their antitrust practices, they complied. When Standard Oil was ordered to break up, they broke up. If I'm a tech guy running a multi-billion dollar company and my choices are A) sell the company for $50 billion dollars and cash out or B) get kicked out of the U.S. and lose 70% of your business, I'mma choose A. The founders are either greedy as fukk or there's something else going on. They would probably be able to negotiate a board seat so they'd still be involved in the business after the sale. I don't understand the logic of TT playing these games.

It doesn't matter if it gets fully banned by then as Biden is the one who signed the bill. The optics will be that Trump fraught to keep it alive.... Democracts continue to showcase the political instincts of a fruitfly :mjlol: they continue to get in their own way

when the government can arbitrarily ban websites and dictate what apps you can install, it absolutely has changed the landscape of our society.

i doubt this will be the last ban we and the chorus to ban more websites has gotten louder.

tiktok has way more information than the library of alexandria had.probably produces a library of alexandria of valuable information every hour.

Its not a new precedent for governments to ban apps/websites. They do so via seizing/takedowns. Anyone whose pirated comics, games, movies, books knows. This decision is simply more overt and far reaching to the general public. I believe in free markets, demand will create supply. Tiktok is an amalgam of Vine, Musically, Tumblr and a good portion of the relevant content exists on Youtube ( which pays more ). Tiktok shining grace was its algo which wasn't beholden to advertisers like other sites. The bold is the crux of this argument, people are mourning the loss of their easy access digestible info. There's nothing Tiktok has that Youtube doesn't offer, beyond spamming videos.
