I had the last 2 weeks off from work and lost myself in Lupe’s whole catalog pretty much and revisited Nas run with Hitboy. Nas today is still better than probably 90-95% of the game imo…let’s get that out the way, he’s still top top tier…but I think either he’s sacrificed some of his penmanship for the sake of the actual music sounding better/more digestible…or his pen just ain’t what it used to be. Also the “streetness” (I tried to think of a better word but couldn’t…maybe grittiness) in his voice is almost totally gone, he had one of the dopest rap voices ever…he doesn’t anymore.

That’s all tho, nothing crazy…I know that’s unpopular in here but I’ll take the negs in exchange for non-stupid dialogue, 🤷🏽‍♂️. I know somebody else gotta feel the same about son. Still TBE tho…Jordan still averaged like 22 on the Wizards..

Agreed. This is how I feel about most of the Nas/Hitboy work. It's good albums but I rarely revisist.

Big needs to stop being mentioned in the same breath with nas jay and pac…yea pac’s career was short but he had way more output and charisma so him being top 5 makes sense. Big had two albums on peak bad boy and by the history of all bad boy artists, it’s a given he would’ve fell off either on or after album #3

what the fukk was Wu tang even rapping about to be considered “so nice”

scarface is overrated, what does he excel in? He feels like a default diversity pick in top 5/10 lists

rap songs with an oversinging ass r&b hook >>> rappers doing their own hooks

music was better when there was less of it available and the industry had gatekeepers, it was also more enjoyable having a collective experience

Agree with everything except for the Biggie opinion

I love Wu (moreso them as a collective or Chef&Ghost) but i agree with that aswell

Yup that's how I feel about the Nas/Hit-Boy albums also. While they are dope especially by 2023 standards; you can tell something is "off".

Nastradamus is a flawed album, but you can tell it's all Nas through and through

Vastly overrated...never got the hype. And this isn't some anti-south ish b/c I love southern rap.

The Diary is at tops, a 4 mic album...to me there are several "...that was aiiiight" songs on it, and I've tried to like it over the years but it's just there to me. Not some undeniable classic. But since it came out in the 1994-1996 period, everyone feels like it's nicer than it really is. If it dropped in 1998, it wouldn't be better than Capital Punishment

His voice is only tolerable in doses to me

Just feels like ppl feel like they have to mention 'face so they throw him on their lists.

If there were "All decades" teams for hiphop like there are in the NfL , Jim jones would undoubtedly be on the all 2000s team.

Drill music brought NY undetground back to relevancy.

Atl killed hip hop. Not 'rap' but hip hop.

All rappers should be ranked and rated by their eras, imo…when they were active and in their primes, which is usually in their 5-year or so “era”.

Saying people are “the greatest ever” is kinda ridiculous being honest, it’s not fair. Cube makes these lists still…LL makes these lists still…etc… when really they ain’t been “😳😳😳🔥!!” like that since their eras. I can name a lot more but I don’t wanna get negged for hurting feelings, 😆🤷🏽‍♂️. There are a handful whose talent transcends eras and they remained better than most even after 10-15+ years…that list is super duper incredibly thin tho being honest.

I remember Jordan speaking about this with basketball, shhit applies to rap too, imho.

Tupac & Biggie wouldn't be held in such high regard if they were alive and are overrated massively due to being dead.

Jay Z & Nas also massively overrated.]

People (this forum) hate on Eminem because he is white and use his dwindling quality of output as an excuse for what is racism.

A rapper can be a grade A violent, despicable c*nt but because he is 'in Jail' the system is at fault and not the rapper. Thus giving birth to 'Free (insert rapper name here)' even though they are deservedly in jail for a crime that warrants it.
No one hates on em for being white

If he was black he wouldn’t even have a career, he’d be cyhi the prince, Royce da 59 status

Stop it

nas...if hip hop is dead then how does he still have so much to say. i didnt listen to that album and barely listened to him since. strongly felt a way about that. while we're here running around in n-word, hard -er tshirts was stupid too. hes still in my top 10 for all the stuff prior to that

big was nice but 1 dimensional. all he rapped about was himself. why i always chose pac in comparisons

ghost writing doesnt matter. rap is still just music and its about the end result. theyre songs not term papers
