volk got enough sense to know that a bad KO on top of the damage he already put on Ortega could end his life

Im not a fan of the whole last minute and a half of the fight we just throwing lazy shots especially in a close fight.

I mean at the end Ortega almost got him

I've been watching MMA for 16 years, give or take, and I cannot believe that, despite all the evolution the sport has gone through in that time frame, blocking punches with your face is still an acceptable defensive method.

You'd think it'd have been completely trained out of the sport by now, but look at what we have here. Another fighter that will probably be robbed of his greatness because he never bothered to learn proper head movement and defensive tactics.

Comparing Volk/Ortega to Usyk/Joshua (different sports, I know, I know) is very, very instructive in this respect. Getting real sick of seeing this "block with my face" nonsense in MMA.

I think because we are still in the Cave man mind era they believe if they take hits and stay stoic that it will hurt the guy throwing punches it works sometimes with Derrick Lewis and Tony Ferg.

The mentality of these fighters is so interesting to me because someone like Thug Rose seems like she’s hypnotized during fights

There seemed to be a tipping point of skill elevation a few years ago (2015-17?) but it appears to have plateaued

But I also wasn't a consistent watcher before a year ago so I don't have a full scope:manny:

Sometimes, MMA can legit be worse than pro wrestling when it comes to head trauma and fighter safety, insanely enough.

Him not immediately being rushed to the hospital when you could credibly argue that Dean should've stopped the fight after the 3rd is ridiculous.
Is there anybody worse than stopping fights when they should be stopped than Herb Dean?:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

That nikka gonna get somebody killed
