Yea when it first opened up. Mad property damage. When have u ever heard of a movie studio catchin on fire? Perry pockets are to heavy to put together a shotty lot too. Them boys spanked him and told him shut da fukk up

I meant his newer studio.. he moved his studio in the last two years to a former army base.

I'm not sure how you would put Rhimes in the same catogory with Daniels and Perry. I think she actually works against racial stereotypes by putting her Black characters in elevated positions. She's also a better writer than the other two. I don't regularly watch any of her shows but I don't see any as being negative outside of Scandel by having the Black woman play the loyal mistress. Is it the interracial compenent in many of her shows that bothers people so much?

I guess the question is why can't Madea exist as some sort of comic relief without being criticized? I get the feeling Madea is an exaggerated parody of how some grouchy old people act and that the character isn't meant to be taken seriously. I also don't think the majority of the characters in those films behave the way she does. I saw one of his movies a long time ago called Why Did I Get Married and there were no characters like Madea in it from what I can remember.

Again I'm not an expert on his movies as I've only seen Diary of a Mad Black Woman and the other one I said but from the outside it seems like people wanna strap Madea as all he does. I look at that character as absurdist humor not as him trying to portray that is the gold media standard for how black people behave. It's like Waldo from Family Matters. Dude was a straight up buffoon that existed for comic relief purposes. Is Waldo called a c00n or the actor that played him? What about Cole from Martin? Some of these characters are just idiots you're supposed to laugh at and aren't intended to be social commentary.

But I think Cole from Martin & Waldo exist on the Kelly Bundy plain. Their idiocy isn't based on racial stereotypes. Shawn (white guy on Martin) was the same as Cole. Madea could be satirical, if it wasn't so exaggerated. Like I said, a better comparison would be Big Momma. That's a great take on the all-powerful, all-knowing grandma character.

You should definitely watch a Madea flick to gain insight. She is everything bad in the world. The rest of his films have men as the villains and women that aren't very comfortable in themselves. It's cool to give a character a great arc, but why can't they already be strong?

Yes, It's like she's allergic to black couples.

Most of y'all have probably never seen a Tyler Perry movie.

Outside of his Madea films, which usually are more light-hearted, he makes movies about serious issues. He just throws in comedic elements to make it more digestible. I've never once watched a Tyler Perry film and felt like it was c00nery. If you think his stuff isn't good that's fine, but it's lazy and inaccurate to say that he's producing minstrel show type pictures.

:usure: I guarantee folks who shyt on Tyler Perry have seen at least 1 Tyler Perry movie.

EDIT: Even Spike Lee made The 25th Hour with a mostly white cast.
The 25th Hour was not a "Spike Lee film" though, it was one of those times Spike played director-for-hire like when he made Old Boy and Inside Man.

That all-white Tyler Perry show is produced by Tyler Perry so the decision to make it 99.999% white was all Perry's.

This. I don't put Shonda Rhimes in the same category as Tyler Perry & Lee Daniels.

Shonda Rhimes's TV shows/movies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tyler Perry & Lee Daniels' work

I haven't seen much Perry stuff, but I haven't seen anything c00nish. Most of them try at least to have an uplifting message. He appeals to church-going folk he's not making Soul Plane sequels.

I wonder how many people shytting on Perry say a damned word about the Wayans brothers or Ice Cube?:sas2:

:francis: I wish Spike Lee would do more director-for-hire work.

i can only speak for myself: that shyt bothers me...from the bits/pieces i caught of her shows, she doesnt have a black couple....she has a strong sista, but then has that sista with a white guy and or being the side piece for a white guy...hell, didnt she even have viola being bi-sexual with a white woman on that show?....i mean damn....

it's not just her, i see that shyt a lot in the media...they rarely have a black couple...it's usually 1 brotha/sista out the group that dates anyone that isnt black....and that shyt bugs me.....

Both of the black doctor's husbands on Greys Anatomy have been black.
Viola's character on How to Get Away With Murder was married to a white guy and had a lesbo affair with Jean Grey from The X-Men but her main dude that she is deeply in love with is a black guy.
Now aside from that black Senator who was one the show for 5 minutes, Oliva Pope stay riding white dikk so you have a point there.
