Being verified on Twitter meant you were somebody. like an actor/actress, musician, journalist, singer, politician, etc. It's status and prestige...that blue check...
When everybody has it, it becomes meaningless.
it's gonna mess up search results. trying to find an actual doctors opinion on a topic is gonna be 1000x harder when anyone can have that badge and say they're a medical professional without having to verify they are. when this happens it'll make it less useful and desirable for actual professionals to engage on the platform.

the filter:verified or -filter:verified search operator will be useless!

Twitter porn next :mjcry:
that will actually hurt the platform and remove a potential revenue source. can't help but think how many dudes were motivated to create accounts divulging their phone number to twitter just so they can comment on a adult page even just to say "whos that?".

It’s means your the person your representing yourself to be all that other stuff you mentioned is implied and superficial

People will pay
especially if blue checks can only be dmed by other blue checks
see black Amex, linkedin premium, etc

yeah if they make it so that users can restricts DM's from only other {all users or verified users only}, people will pay if they believe they'll have more "exclusive" access to someone.

I think Elon’s vision is ensure all users are verified as actual people to reduce anonymous trolling and bots.

Blue Check verification available to all will still allow us to know it’s an official celebrity account etc but also that the people you are interacting with/debating against/agreeing with are who they say they are.

Imagine if you could see the real pic and name of the racist troll sending you hateful tweets/DMs

It’s all about accountability online and I think it’s a step in the right direction.

What percent of blue checks does he think will pay for this? I doubt this grosses any relevant value. The big brain idea to revamp twitter being charging for a check next to your name lol

If a hundred percent of the blue checks paid zero percent prior, even one percent of the blue checks paying something still comes to more lol. And if a percentage of the blue check guys leave, the ones left will have even more clout. The ones who use it to market their products and get hits on their projects and stories would be foolish not to see it as a business expense.. They'll just grumble because they were getting fit free earlier.

Ive seen spam/bot accounts impersonating celebrities to swindle their followers having blue check marks lol. shyt lost all status and value a long time go

you sure you didn't see these emojis instead? a lot of people were falling for fake emojis masquerading as verified accounts scamming people.

I don't know considering there are a lot of nobody's that have blue checks.

People who already have blue checks on Twitter have to upgrade to the more expensive plan however within 90 days or they lose their blue check.

you have an example of the nobody's with verification badges?

the NYPD alone has 132 verified twitter accounts. that doesn't include all the other verified accounts belonging to other NYC agencies and even the accounts of local politicians or former/current candidates. the government will pay to be verified and avoid being impersonated. there are probably 2000+ verified twitter accounts for NY government use alone.

edit:
the list is curated NYPD verified accounts so it might actually be more than that.

Don't know if yall know but if you work on your company provided computer, your company has to pay for Google as well. My Google is way more advanced with less ads than my personal computer. They have to pay a license.

It won’t even be that long.. it’s already in the ground… Twitter execs was just waiting for a sucker to come along and buy it.. Enter Elon getting finessed out of 44 bill…

Jack Dorsey got Twitter 2.0 on deck
30,000 signups already (including myself)!

Its not gonna work because he's essentially punishing his best content creators and having a blue check is gonna be looked as lame now because it's paying for clout. It's short-sighted and dumb, but it's what I'd expect form someones of Elon's ilk; bright in a few niches, but damn near autistic and undeservedly overconfident in most other areas.

That is a necessary expense though.. Paying to have a blue check on Twitter is not a necessary expense. I wonder if he will change his mind if people just migrate to another platform.. I mean there’s more out here to choose from than Twitter. These corporations go where the people are it’s not the other way around.
