I agree with the write-up. I was really excited to see J. Cole come into the game early on, because I thought he had a unique story. People act like rappers' stories are only valid if they went through the street life first, but I thought that Cole was going to be great because of his clear skill level, and because he'd be able to use that skill level to tell a story that normally isn't told in rap, and to open it up to more who have that story.
But like Noz wrote, he doesn't use those experiences as the context for anything else. Everything starts and ends with his own life, and that's it.
I'd really love if Cole just teamed up with a great executive producer to pick beats for him, and let him really just focus on taking his writing to the next level.

Man I'm not asking him to appease anyone. I'm just saying that this "internet dude" pinpointed exactly what is lacking in J. Cole's pen game so if he ignores the ether and takes the positive out of it he could take his lyrics to the next level.

I agree with every word, dude makes me feel bad because I really couldn't express how I felt about Cole besides just calling the nikka boring and extra average especially to be the games new "nas". This was perfect.

" like this is just some random nikka with a twitter/bloghe's a professional writer and has been since the 90's, this is how all criticisms should read but too many of these writers are getting paid to say certain shyt so we're left with shytty complex mag lists, elliot wilsons dikkriding, and pitchfork looking at rap projects from an alternative music point of view

Noz is the best active rap critic, and this was a great post.
the subject matter of "let nas down" was ironic to me because since j cole came out commercially (meaning after his mixtape run), the only thing hes done thats really impressed me is his ability to write radio hits. shyt it would normally take an army of writers at def jam to write something like power trip. but if he wants respect as this heir to nas bringing lyricism back he'll have to do more than that
I'm a huge Cole fan.....but I can't say dude is completely wrong. What I like about Cole is that he's a deep dude, he understands the issues. A song like "Enchanted" or "Show Me Something" shows that he can make the kind of song that is universally accessible. That is what draws me to artists, the ability to make a song that is very personal but can be easily understood/appreciated by the listeners. On some of his songs I perfectly understand what he is talking about, but frankly....I don't give a f*ck 
For instance, on "Land of Snakes", I perfectly understand the segment of the song where he is talking about the chick he hooked up with but never answered her calls after. We've all been there, but I didn't understand the purpose of talking about it on that particular song. What exactly was the listener supposed to draw from that particular story? Wow, you mean to tell us you got p*ssy in college?!

nikkaz be writing entire short stories about cole daily, if he so mediocre why do u nikkaz still follow dude, like seriously, yall talk about how he so boring, but dudes has 1000s of fans that love his music more than anybody else, what he doing must not be boring to them, i been bumping his album as much as i was bumpin gkmc, this album is great, like for better or for worst this is cole, why do u nikkaz think yall opinion needs to be taken serious and that he needs to change because of iti truly dont understand that, nikkaz is sick, i been bumpin cole since losing my balance was posted on allhiphop up and coming artist section, i can give a fukk about a jay cosign, soon after warm up dropped and dude has been my favorite and bunch of other nikkaz favorite rappers, from project to project dude has been him, dude has drop 2 mixtapes, 2 albums, 2 eps, he is who he going to be, a stubborn dude who wants to do things his way, if yall feel he so boring and mediocre why do yall even give his music a chance
and to dude who said most of his stories are about his life, i think thats why most of his fans or fans, cause us as fans have a personal connection wit dude, i cant say that about alot of other artist, like i checked twitter and his album is getting mad praise, i check instagram and his album is gettin mad love, only people i hear downing it is a few people on here(and even most of the people on hear say it atleast good/great), and a few critics, like i dont have a problem wit dudes not like his music for whatever reason, but to keep crying about other people liking it is crazy, like nikkaz on here love sleep worthy nikkaz blu/fashawn/ elzee(whoever) and most them nikkaz is wack as fukk imo, they have hardly any fans and get dikkrode on this site like crazy, i tried they music it didnt connect, whatever i wont bump it again, or since i think they medicore i wont even go in a thread about they music, i wont even think about making a thread about them
