Listen. I just like winning artist. Cole has impressed me several times. Most notably when he kicked those Funk Flex freestyles two weeks ago.

Those were FIRE.

But dude is just a constant underperformer who is only where he is because of his Jay-Z association and people forcing themselves to be drawn to him so he can be "real hip hop" or whatever.

Oh gawd. Lol:pachaha:

nikka quit doing this shyt. U aint foolin anybody. Please stop with the whole "Look, i'm really rooting him," routine. If you're gonna troll, then troll like u have some balls. Quit being fake by giving him your phony props in your hopes that ppl don't realize your hate and creepy obsession with this man.

Noz, the man who wrote this article, is one of the unsung bloggers of the game. He is pretty much the guy who discovered ASAP Rocky thru Yams and sparked the internet hype train for him.

It's great when somebody has an opinion, and is able to express it so clearly that you can see where they're coming from whether you agree with it or not. :tu:

I like some of J. Cole's music but would mostly agree with OP. I don't get the Nas comparison at all btw, he doesn't even come close to being as prolific a writer.

That was actually pretty good. I still like Cole but can accept that on Born Sinner other than the Money interlude he can be limited. Disagree with the Wale critique cause call him what you want but you can't call him boring.

Still a good write though I enjoyed it even if for the discussion it'll open up :ehh:

:russ: i remember nikkas posted some truth that Noz said and nikkas tried to shyt on him because he was white.

now you nikkas see he actually knows what he's talking about the majority of the time :salute:

just a few days ago he was going in on how all these new rappers are too p*ssy to challenge the old heads :lupe:

@noz
young rappers need to start taking the heads of old guard ivory tower suits like jay if they want this rap shyt to survive

@noz 24 Jun
behind closed doors young dudes clown every move the big dogs make but they're scared it's gonna fukk up the money if they do so publicly

@noz 24 Jun
how are you gonna be the next jay-z if you're still genuflecting to the last jay-z

@noz 24 Jun
drake never names names. because he's a coward.

he the only hip-hop writer keeping it real nowadays :salute:

:whoo: A bit harsh but the critique was on point. Cole's tendency to induce boredom is directly related to his limited perspective thru his pen game.

He definitely doesn't evoke the imagery that Nas does nor is his writing as intricate or in depth, but Born Sinner is still dope to me. And so were the Truly Yours' tapes. I don't need him to be the next coming of Nas to enjoy good music. Everybody brings something different to the table.

Negativity (Kayfabe)
Dude is wholly incapable of seeing outside of himself. Literally every idea on Born Sinner is I / me / my on some elementary school essay shyt. His subjects exist only as one dimensional props for him to hang his own personality and narratives on.

In essence; that's Cole.

I've heard 85% of his music and the biggest variances are the beats.

Dude is always on the come up trying to pay off student loans.

The writer makes a great point about the greats, cuz, Cole begs us to forget about them in place of the new cats and the new cats don't get it; they're lives aren't that interesting.

I'm glad he called out another new age rapper, because, that's their problem; they took the easiest thing outta of Big, Pac, Jay and Nas' books--the lifestyle section.

Jay-Z is one of the most narcissist, arrogant guys out, but, he nice enough, on the mic, to be that way.

Big & Nas gave us ill narratives.

Pac had the GOAT delivery.

Cole tryna make it off production and punchlines and that's it.

Congrads on the success, but, he's not makin' us forget the 90's.

I agree with most of what he said, except the Cheif Keef praise. Even in terms of delivery/structure/flow he's garbage.

But the idea following the 2pac/Prodigy/Scarface school of thought instead of the Kool G Rap/Nas/Rakim approach to rap I'm fine with.
