Watching from December 98 to WM 15, a few things I noticed

Austin is gone for almost a month from Buried alive til he appears to help Mankind get his first title win on 1/4/99. In that time period they basically put DX in Austin's spot, feuding with the corporation as the main story in all the shows, and it pretty much works without skipping a beat.

The Outlaws really are just as over as HHH at this time. You can tell that they knew they were moving HHH out of the group, because once Austin is back they basically have the NAO separate from HHH for the next 2 months leading to WM 15.

It's interesting how they are building Taker vs Vince to be a big deal even weeks before WM 15, and kind of taking away from the big Rock/Vince vs Austin focus. Goes to show that they had SOME long-term booking in mind.

Val Venis sucked imo. He was kind of over, as everyone was, but the crowd generally dies when his matches start. Billy Gunn and Ken Shamrock were way better midcarders at the time, and were much more fun to watch in the ring.

Undertaker was so demonic and powerful at this time. They really fukked up with the Higher Power angle, he was really the perfect transition as a top heel from Vince/Rock vs Austin.

You should watch all the up to Backlash 99 and the Raw after with the Black Wedding which i feel is the best episode of Raw from a story telling aspect that they ever done IMO.

Imo one of the most peak Russo moments is having Road Dogg in the hardcore division and Billy in the IC division feuds for 3 months and then swapping them at the last minute for WM

This swap bothers me to this day. I was really looking forward to their matchups prior to the switch. The shyt made no sense at all

Great American Bash 99. Skipped most of it.

Kevin Nash vs. Savage main event :scust:

Nash gets jumped by Savage’s harem of hoes: Madusa, Gorgeous George, and Miss Madness (Molly Holly) who hits Nash with a missile dropkick.

Then Sid comes outta nowhere and beats up Nash :heh:

The Steiner bros. and Tank Abbott sic 2 Dobermans and a Rottweiler on Sting :russ:

You can always tell who was watching during this time and who is younger and watched it through highlights years later. You see people look at it positively because of Vince's reaction and JR'S call. But at the time it was a massive disappointment, they feeling at the time was just be anyone but Vince because it would be so predictable, it would be such an easy way out.

It really was WWFs fingerpoke of doom. It made no sense given the 6 months of story before it, made all of that previous stuff not matter, and reverted back to an old angle that worked, but had been ran into the ground. And it was the beginning of tons of casual fans gradually tuning out.

Bash at the Beach 99. Such gems as...

The Cat vs. Disco Inferno
Rick Steiner vs. Van Hammer
Dean Malenko vs. David Flair-US title
West Texas Rednecks vs. No Limit Soldiers

And the 2nd to last match of the night. Wait for it...

Buff Bagwell vs. Roddy Piper :scust:

Yeah we’re deep in the abyss. And there’s still a over a year and a half left. :merchant:
