NOBODY was putting on better matches than Shawn during that timeHBK in 1996-1998 legit sucks outside of like 5 matches. He was a terrible, terrible top face, and as the top heel he was drugged out of his mind every week. Non stop disappointments from HBK. HBK pre-1995 and post-2002 are better than his physical prime years as a top guy.

Not just people, his peers, current wrestlers, and every wrestler he's been in the ring with. Holds more weight than your monday morning QB analysisGood HBK matches in 1996: Bret at WM, Diesel at IYH, Mankind at IYH 4 months later, Sid at SS for the of the crowd turning on him, nothing in 1997 until KOTR with Austin, HIAC with Taker, nothing the rest of the year or his time in 1998. This is a dude that people claim is the absolute greatest and during his PRIME he has only a handful of great matches. You could find 5-6 other guys on the roster with as many or more good to great matches than HBK had when people in his prime.
Dude might be the only guy to legit have his prime be his worst period in his career. Drugs are bad, brehs.

6 matches? LolI agree that HBK is one of the GOATS. Just not during that period. During his physical prime years, he was at the worst in his career, match and booking wise. From his face turn after WM 11 until he left after WM 14, there are 6 matches tops of his I'd say are worth watching.
His matches from that run really weren't that great. I'm at late 1996 right now in the Attitude Era, so I'll update.6 matches? Lol
Vs Taker(3x)
Vs Bulldog
Vs Bret(2x)
Vs Mankind
Vs Vader
Vs Austin(2x) and their run as tag champs
Vs Sid
And thats just off the top of my head not counting his matches with midcard guys like Owen & Shamrock
NJPW has way better in ring performers now than WWE had back then brehHis matches from that run really weren't that great. I'm at late 1996 right now in the Attitude Era, so I'll update.
Maybe it's because there wasn't much to compare it to back then, but now I watch NJPW and see better matches often.
