Let’s just remember politics is sometimes just pushing stuff you know you won’t actually have to do just to curry favor. McConnell complains about debt then gave the Dems the votes they needed.

SCOTUS refused to hear it in 2020. Thomas could be dead by the time 2024 comes. Variables.

One or two could have done that in 2020 and they didn’t cross that line. Some of the blustering is just political.

I think we all need to remember these state legislatures aren’t the same make up as the Gym Jordan/ Cawthorne sycophants. Trump appointment judges still turned him down in court.
I meant win in terms of successfully throw out a Dem state win, not win SOS.

If you say so. I don’t see the point in downplaying the threat. I thought Trump was going to try and stay in office somehow if he lost his whole first term and most of the pundit/editorial world thought it was fantastical at the time.

We’ll see what happens, but i think at the very minimum we should acknowledge Trump or Desantis or whoever will be better positioned at the state level in 24 than in 20.

I think the Republicans will be in position to win fairly just because of being on the outsider position with an unpopular president.

They way they are pumping Desantis or even Youngkin as alternative means to me they don’t want to test those boundaries either.

There’s just a lot of appeasement of Trump and his ilk going on.

It’s not about Trump though. That’s the point. The whole right is becoming increasingly authoritarian. Do you really think Desantis is that much less of an authoritarian than Trump? Every morning he wakes up it seems he finds a new way to try and be king of Florida.

When I see authoritarian, I’m thinking of Erdogan or Castro where opposition is jailed or power is concentrated to into one hand.

Trump and DeSantis are bad governance masquerading as strength cause they don’t expect to be challenged. Both of them are beatable.

Like I said. I see the threat in the right wing sphere. I just see it more among the rank and file.

The Michigan militia wanting to kidnap Big Gretch. The Oregon militia who went into the capitol with help from an official (Republicans and Dems removed him from office). The Texas dudes who tried running the campaign bus off the road. Fox News amplifiers the Big Lie.

It all goes together. The attempts to decertify elections, voter disenfranchisement, replacing nonpartisan election officials with party stooges, the violent militias who are the shock troops, it’s part of the same same right wing authoritarian current and you can’t parse the components.

Republicans have been doing disenfranchisement for over a century. Ignoring federal voting laws.Overturning elections and violent mobs have been there too. We fought a war about it.

The difference being now we have people believing lies about pedophiles and fake ballots. Not because I hate black people and believe there are inferior.
