The richest country in the history of the world, and the leaders of said country would have you blame the poor/vulnerable, and so many of the vulnerable actually buy into it because they equate looking down on people actually fighting for them to "patriotism" and equate "human decency" to "PC, Libtard, SJW".
Instead of
