this season may crush #1
Inside the Obsessive, Strange Mind of True Detective’s Nic PizzolattoI'm not talking about something as basic as the identity of the Yellow King. I'm talking about him mentioning Bierce, Ligotti and Lovecraft several times during his press run. And/or using their material as "inspiration" during the first season.
I ain't even complaining really, because I love the first season but you invoke those authors, people are going to expect more than what we were given. And I don't necessarily mean a twist in the conventional sense.
Fred.
What does referencing those authors mean viewers are expected to want? As a viewer, if you jump to the conclusion of what story a show is going to tell you based on some relatable references, that's on you. I went into True Detective S1 expecting a story, and I got a great one.Did you know from the beginning how Season One would end?
I knew what the last scene was. I wasn’t entirely sure how we were going to get ourselves there, but I knew what it was. And if the last scene had to change because the characters revealed something to me, then it would change. But actually the last scene is the last scene that was always intended to be. I’ve enjoyed reading people theorize about what’s going to happen because it’s a sign that you’re connecting. But I’m also sort of surprised by how far afield they’re getting. Like, why do you think we’re tricking you? It’s because you’ve been abused as an audience for more than 20 years. The show’s not trying to outsmart you. And really if you pay attention… if someone watches the first episode and really listens, it tells you 85 percent of the story of the first six episodes.
Something's still off about Amelia and the situation with Rebecca to me
Seems like our biggest clue so far is that brown sedan and the two people in it. If the old dude that gave them the info was right, we still haven't seen who the black person is...unless it was someone in blackface
