No Whammies!!
That crooked spiral S1 reference :ohhh:
I was wondering if that was meant to be a "Carcosa" reference

Always a trip tho which scene surprises and gets my biggest reaction This time it was the daddy being clowned on at the factory with that ol early days nanny state ("you need your leave") bullshyt. This dude Scoot McNairy (yeah, thats his name and he's top billed) is damn good. fukk that straw boss nikka for telling a man not to bring some dignity back in his life and work.

I don't think that was BS. He was about to cause an industrial accident and get himself/one of his coworkers maimed. It's not his bosses job to let one of his workers use his job as "therapy" if he's messing with the efficiency of the whole group.

For a black cop in 1980 rural Arkansas, race would be a factor. To not address it at all would be kinda ridiculous.

Fred.

Exactly. Just peep the looks on the faces of those beat cops when he was telling them (at the house initially) to go and canvass the area and search the fields for any clues. He was ordering them around, as his rank would suggest, and they were all :gucci: but knew they had to do it because he was higher up in the food chain and they knew wasting time even trying to dispute it meant those kids would legit be dead.

I'm not gonna say it's on season 1 level yet, we're only 2 episodes in.

But it's 1000000000000000000000000000000000000x closer to season 1 than season 2. The first two episodes were real dope and Mahershala Ali is killing it.

This feels way better than season 2 already. Definitely has that true detective feel from season 1...

But nikkas is gassing it lol. It’s really not all that great. I think that just really shows how bad season 2 was. So far it’s been ok. The pacing seems way slower than season 1.

Nah the acting has been great and two episodes in there's already a gang of easter eggs popping up got people intrigued, it's been good. I don't think anyone said it's been better than season 1. There's not much in the history of television that is on season 1 level. :manny:

So I just finished watching.

Yall can ignore this because most of it is babble but

Do yall think the fact that we sort of perceive and understand these shows to be mystery show with a twist at the end, does that fact sort of ruin or take away from the experience of the show?
Yes. Especially for this show. In the first season NicPizzolatto, the creator/writer of the show, explicitly came out and said he's not about cheap twists or trying to fool the viewer. This was when everyone was falling over themselves trying to figure out who the Yellow King was. He's trying to tell a story that doesn't rely on gimmicks. Season 2 didn't rely on them either and I see no reason he'd start using them now:manny:

Eh....

I can't say I agree with this at all. If Nic Pizzolatto was out here giving vanilla interviews strictly about the story he was telling, or how his world view informs the show, etc.....basically what David Simon does....ok, cool. I agree 100%.

He chose to name drop weird fiction and/or cosmic horror writers damn near nonstop while promoting the first season. So yeah, people are gonna look for things that would justify those name drops. It would be like if David Chase constantly talked about Edgar Allen Poe in relation to the new "Sopranos" movie....people are gonna expect a pay off of some sort.

That, coupled with the fact that they made some frankly stupid production mistakes (using the same picture in Marty's bedroom as the wall paper in the psych ward, having Marty's daughter causally draw a crooked spiral in her doodles)....yeah. You can't really make those kinds of mistakes then be surprised when people expect some crazy twist.

Fred.
