I slightly disagree . I can see how people may think this because of his words but his actions displayed a different guy. He hunts wild boar without live ammunition because he wants a "level playing field". When it came time to investigate homie went searching doll, wasn't spooked or anything. And when the body is found he immediately goes searching for the girl in the dead of night against the wishes of his partner...

If anything he may become too emotionally involved.
Facts, I feel like that's a big staple of the series. If the main character isn't obsessed with the case in some way then it's not True Detective.

There were zero moments that took me out of the show. Remember how many times in season 2 you were aware you were watching a TV show with shyt writing and shyt acting from kitsch and Vaughn. This season is legit and a return to form. Mahershala and dorff kill it. Very surprised at how good dorff is
I'll always remember from the first episode of season 1, that 45 mins went by and I didn't even notice until I checked the time. It went by like a breeze and I was fully involved.
You guys ready for that crazy, season 1 wild theory shyt? :blessed:

Very subtle, extremely vague season 1 reference. :ohhh:

And I researched....that book on the table doesn't exist. Meaning they created it specifically for the show, which seems strange to do unless it holds some significance.

Maybe I am tired but both episodes were boring as fukk.

I have not read one comment in this thread, but I am assuming it is taking the story line from the Memphis three.

I will still watch though because I like Marshala Ali.

ETA: OMFG brehs writing dissertations and shyt.

This show had one of pet peeves that I fukken hate about American tv. Every time a black actor is the lead, his color/ethnic background has to be part of the dialogue.

This is why I love British tv, a black actor can be the lead, and they don't reference his blackness.

ETA: The Scout handbook, again another kind of reference to the Memphis three, all three of the victims were in Scouts.

Do yall think the fact that we sort of perceive and understand these shows to be mystery show with a twist at the end, does that fact sort of ruin or take away from the experience of the show?

No, I think the mystery factor adds to the enjoyment for sure. It adds to the experience on here when we discuss each episode or when I'm discussing with friends or whatever. Even after we find out what's going on, I still enjoy it because you can rewatch and pick up little things that you didn't see before. Usually this show is great with the easter eggs and shyt.

True Detective season 1 is maybe my most enjoyable TV viewing experience outside of The Wire

I swear on everything i hate that shyt.
Buuuuuuuut its AmeriKKKa.
Race will ALWAYS be an issue.
Like, a muthafukka cant even be cop without worrying about being undermined due to him being black.

For a black cop in 1980 rural Arkansas, race would be a factor. To not address it at all would be kinda ridiculous.

That's what I'm saying lol. Any show that has a prominent black character and they don't bring up race is fantasy bullshyt and I can't fukk with it. The best scene of Episode 2 was the spat that Ali and Dorff had about him not using his privilege to sway their superiors.

I was watching the In The Weeks Ahead trailer and noticed something.

That looks like an old school Dungeons & Dragons grid map. People used them in the 1980's to play the game.

The "Forest Of Leng" book in episode 1 is actually a fake version of a D&D module. Basically a rule book and story outline for playing the game.

I dunno how old the vast majority of this board is, but D&D was under a lot of scrutiny in the 80's for supposedly promoting Satanism. So I'm wondering if they'll tie that into the kids disappearance.

That's the red herring implication. But if he was a pedo, he wouldn't care about Playboys so my guess is he isn't a pedo and the boy made the hole to check on his sister, who may or may not have been abused by the dad/mom. When they refer to the 90s reinvestigation they mention shyt about what happened with Julie and the dad, so there's a family storyline coming into play after the case of the boy's killer in 1980 is closed.

I could see the mom coming out with abuse allegations against the dad and the politically motivated prosecutor using that to jam up the dad and close the case on both murders despite Ali's objections.

That scene in the car was great....from Hayes basically telling West he should've used his white privilege to change their minds....to West being confused, because he's white but obviously not on the same level as the people they were arguing with. So he had no power to change anything.

Great writing.

Just got finished watching the first two episodes, the first two episodes of this season pull me in more than the first two of S1 :lupe:

If this season turns out to be amazing I might have to revisit S1, outside of that classic scene in episode 4 it was just OK to me.

Also, Ali's acting and makeup in the 2015 timeline is amazing, hard to tell its a young dude playing a senior :wow:
