Yeah but with everything that was going on in Marty's personal life, I think that was enough to make him snap. He instantly realizes the error of his ways, and they have to cover it up.

All of that to say that I don't think Marty is a shytty character or detective.

The more I think about ....all this is Marty's fault killed dude...if he didnt..Rusty would have put the Jedi mind tricks on him on the interrogation and they would have seen how far the rabbit whole was initially

It probably worked out for the better that they didn't bring those dudes in. They would have killed them just like the other guy who slit his wrists.

I think this spooky crazy shyt is just out of his realm. In terms of cop stuff like tailing and following up on clues, he's just as average as the rest of the team. He'd still be an all-star in Dexter's Miami Metro.

Was gonna post this exact same thing! Maybe its a sign of the times where i saw the kids but wasn't really moved to want to kill Ledoux. I'd prolly got a few punches and kicks in (while claiming he was resisting arrest) but straight execution..nah. For a second when Marty opened the back of the van, i thought Marty had seen someone he knew because that would be my only justification for lashing out that quickly without even thinking shyt through.

Yeah, but Rust doesn't have kids. It makes sense that Marty was brought to violence over seeing that

He had a kid that died under mysterious circumstances. which is worse, and sees kids as the reason why human coupling exist.
It would have made more sense for him to flip out. Fukk up the lead but obsess over finding out the real killers because it was his mistake that led to the current situation.

He aint built for detective work....in the sense of putting shyt together....he's good as a grunt....but his head is never really in the game and he's a liability

There could be a season that’s much more of a widespread conspiracy thriller (Season 1? ) , a season that’s a small‑town murder mystery, a season where nobody is murdered and it’s a master criminal versus a rogue detective or something. Even the title, True Detective, is meant to be, of course, purposefully somewhat generic – the word “true” can also mean honorable and authentic and things like that. So as long as there is some crime in there, I think the series format can approach it.

Wasn't it presented that Marty Mar is a good cop? It sucks how Marty is left to be the emotional mess in lieu of Rusty styling on everything in his sight. I still contend that the Madea looking guy from episode 1 or 2 is deep in this. Wasn't he part of the push to hand off the case?
