The "4th wall" refers to anything that directly interacts with the audience, doesn't matter if it's TV, comics or movies.

The earliest reference to the 4th wall is 19th century theater. The invisible "wall" facing the audience would be considered the 4th wall to the room on the set.

I'm gonna assume you seen "Breaking Bad".

"The Sopranos" is incredible. So is "Deadwood" and "House of Cards". "Oz" gets pretty stupid towards the later seasons. Haven't seen "Orange...." yet. Not a huge fan of "Boardwalk".
