It also helps that the story is pre-planned, written by the same individual, directed by the same individual and it relatively short (8 episodes). Not fair comparing a smaller sample size to seasons worth of material, which increases the likelihood of weak episodes.

That being said, I feel the hype is deserved. The depth of the two main characters is considerably deep given only 4 hours of show. Rust is one of the most intriguing characters to come around in a long time in my opinion. Characters like that don't come around very often.

The writer of this show has no track record on TV. He's unproven. He dropped 4 hot episodes, that's it. The show deserves praise, it doesn't deserve to be mentioned alongside any of those shows, let alone proclaimed as better than them. It belittles the accomplishment of actually running for multiple seasons while maintaining an expected level of quality. It's easy to maintain quality for 4 episodes. Or 8 episodes. Or hell, even 16 episodes. Let's have this discussion 3-4 years from now.

I'm not even gonna get into "BB" because I'm obviously biased, but to say these 4 episodes are better than "Rains of Castamere", let alone an entire season of "GoT", is pure unadulterated hype.
This last episode was dope, but all 3 of the shows mentioned have multiple episodes that are just as good, if not better, stretched across multiple seasons.

It's a new show, we haven't had a new show on this level in a while, so people are excited. I get that. But letting this show "cut in line" basically, after only 4 episodes, is some bullshyt.

One is an oscar nominated actor at his peak. Why would he gave up 20 mill for a film to do this every year? The guy has been on a run and now you think he going to give that up?
Even though it will be new actors for the next season, tv is the new film breh. this is the golden age of television... damn near every big name actor is looking at tv projects these days. HBO, Showtime, Netflix, AMC, etc have changed the perception of the small tube

Four episodes in I think this is better than the last couple seasons of Breaking Bad, Boardwalk, and Game of Thrones.

McConaughey's acting when he was talking to the guy he ended up kidnapping was amazing. His mannerisms after he does that first bump outside and him having to give this elaborate lie while being high as fukk, but playing off his hesitation as being high was great. He didn't look at him once in the eyes during that . The way that scene unfolded was just as good as the last 6 minutes to me, it drew me into what was happening so much and felt so real.

When everything got fuzzy, slow motion, and disoriented in the biker gang's place, then he looks up and has a shotgun pointed at him, then does a line and everything gets back to normal speed was :ohhh:

Nikka thank you for reminding me of this scene, great fukken acting. I was watching House of Cards with the director commentary, and the director mentioned a sober actor acting drunk/high is the hardest thing ever in acting.

At the end of episode 3 if flashes back to them dancing at that beer joint and then flashes some crime photos. What was the reasoning for that?

It was to contrast Rust's nihilistic attitude and the shyt that "normal" people go through. He was talking about at the moment of death you realize all that petty shyt meant nothing....then it showed Marty dancing with his wife, while jealously looking at his side chick.

Not anytime soon. Less and less movies are being made. Damn near every cable channel is trying to get into scripted programming these days so really the shows are just beginning. Netflix and the internet with higher speeds on the horizon keeps evolving and changing the game. Even though this was a good year for original movies people are tired of squeals and remakes. Even though you can flesh out a story over multiple episode and seasons instead of an hour and a half.. some of the most innovative stories these days are being told on the small screen instead of the big screen. Actors know this

That's what I was thinking, but thanks for clarifying.

Just saw the ep. what the fukk! that was the best episode of TV I've seen in awhile brehs, amazing. The show has had great writing from the beginning but that was on another level. Perfect pacing too.

4 more eps to go, will shyt get crazier? Remember Cohle and Hart have mentioned to the black detectives that there was a big shoot out in the woods or some shyt. Guessing it's where they finally find the cult. And if it's half as crazy as that episode, oh boy.

8 episodes is enough to make this more of a "season" than a "miniseries" to me. I know the Golden Globes and Emmys nominate 8 episode shows alongside longer dramas like Breaking Bad/Game Of Thrones/etc. IIRC Downton Abbey is like 8 episodes and it got nominated. So I don't think this will be labeled a miniseries.

I just finished up EPs. 3 and 4. Man. Let me say that with all the hype, I somehow expected more than what happened in the last 10 minutes or so, but still. Man.

Interesting how you go from crazy Marty one day, to crazy Lisa the next, leading her to snitch him out to Maggie. Like Rust says, he (Marty) couldn't recognize crazy p*ssy? MM continuing to kill his role too. It was crazy seeing him morph from cop to bad guy, then while he's in the house with the bikers, you see him go back to cop again, clearing the place, and making sure to have the biker NOT touch the opening to the safe.

And where did Maggie's job come from? Am I crazy for thinking that she was a stay-at-home mom? Or did I miss something? Kind of fukked up of her taking a shot at Rust's husbanding ability too. Woman scorned and all that I guess.

Also, as if we had any doubt (which there should have been none), seeing Rust swap out a bag of coke for flour shows that he'll go as far as he has to to solve the case. Do we see a guy like him planting evidence to get the RIGHT guy? Sure. However, I can't see him going along with knowingly putting the wrong guy away, so it's gonna be interesting to see how this all turns out.

GOD:damn: brehs i was fukkin tipsy watching this episode... This episode made me sober up in attention... Just got back from watching... That last 15 minutes was GOAT status, pure chaos and that fukkkin camera work :ohlawd:

HBO is gonna make me cry with all these blessings of piff shows :to:

I'm still dying at the bearded dude getting some distance away from Rust only to run back like ":damn:, they everywhere", only to get punched in his face.

:laff:
