Nah, that repressed anger and guilt is who Marty is. Y'all seem to forget his wife stating how disconnected he had been (for months/possibly years).
Thats why my first example of him blowing a pop off had nothing to do with his family (him running up in his jumpoffs crib).
Lol like why are y'all caping for this man. He's a washed up all star qb, who thinks he's a real cop but is really a paper pusher, who lived a life of superficiality. He's not a bad guy. He's just every married guy above the age of 35.

"I’ve enjoyed reading people theorize about what’s going to happen because it’s a sign that you’re connecting. But I’m also sort of surprised by how far afield they’re getting. Like, why do you think we’re tricking you? It’s because you’ve been abused as an audience for more than 20 years. The show’s not trying to outsmart you. And really if you pay attention… if someone watches the first episode and really listens, it tells you 85 percent of the story of the first six episodes."
Also, there is evidence Marty and Rust get back together in 2012 on some level. I'll spoiler it.
