No amount of extra time was going to make this guy go back and rewrite that weird ass dialogue and murky ass story. Would have helped some of the sloppiness? Sure, but the weaknesses would've still been there. When you let writers go unchecked you usually end up with some craziness. That's what multiple writers and editors are for.
