I have no idea why I stopped watching really, like i didn't make a conscious decision to stop, i just did. I don't have any urge to go back and rewatch it to see what i missed. It was certainly a huge step down compared to the :blessed: that was season 1.

If they are going to go on with the 1 writer, they need to space out the seasons a bit more so he can have room to review and edit some of the stuff. All those Vince Vaughn monologues had me

True Detective can't be an annual series, with how powerful it HAS to be.
nah it could be. Just needed a better script, a better cast(with better chemistry). Script was too simple for a tv show with Hollywood as a backdrop. Corruption aspect was kinda weak.

Like what? Fred.

Empire, Tyrant, House of Cards, Sense8, Masters of Sex, Homeland are the first ones that came to mind.

I was going to say Sons of Anarchy and Marco Polo as well but those were done in December 2014.

This is some bullshyt and really makes me dislike Pizzaman even more. He had quite a bit of time to work on the show, actually. He was very confident in the product, and even got a nice glowing major interview in Vanity Fair before S2 came out. HBO thought they got this right. Then the critics weighed in.

The problem with True Detective is Pizzolatto. He created a needlessly complicated/convoluted storyline, repetitive characters, and puzzling dialogue mixed with some truly horrible plot decisions. The season had its moments tho. Episode 2 was really good iirc. And I liked the last couple episodes more than many people did. But overall it was a dud from a creator with full control who doesn't listen to anyone.

S3 isn't going to be good either, and it'll be quietly cancelled. Just watch. S1 was a flash in the pan. Pizzolatto is from Louisiana so it's something he understood and lived. I thought S2 felt very forced and try-hard.

S1 had the GOAT duo. You need a character to level a serious show, and I thought Woody Harrelson did that perfectly. Matthew McConaughey was the stand out character/performance but you needed Harrelson there to ensure viewers never rolled their eyes. It's like in Star Wars: you need Han Solo there to laugh at the force as Obi Wan explains it, or else it could end up being corny. S2 didn't have that. Instead it had four emotionally broken characters brooding through scene after scene. It just felt exhausting after awhile.

im still :dead: at everyone acting like watching season 2 gave them cancer

was it great? no

decent? i think so

Decent isn't an acceptable follow up to greatness though. And season 1 was pretty great. At the very least head and shoulders above season 2.

To high light the problems even more "Fargo" came through with a critically acclaimed second season.

Werd this is fukkin HBO, home of the Sopranos, Wire, Deadwood, Six feet under, Game of thrones etc... they made television relevant and have high standards and we expect them to have high standards. I find it hard to believe that they gave this guy complete fukkin freedom to write that trash with nobody checking on him? if so then something is wrong with management and they need to make sure this doesnt happen again.

:pacspit:Fargo did it.

No, it didn't. For season 2 Noah Hawley (who did write all of season one) worked with other writers to deliver in such a short time span.

I think part of the blame can (and should) be put on Pizzolatto still, but S2 of True Detective definitely felt rushed from the moment they announced they would use different directors.

Farrell and McAdams were highlights of a poor season. The story was all over the place and far too complicated, it became just a list of names and things by the end of it all.
