The funny thing is people in many of these countries still get private insurance because the public system is so strained. But still shouldnt go millions in debt for terminal illness

That story is completely oversold to discourage public healthcare.

I don't know any people going to private clinics in a public system that aren't loaded

In Canada when you go to a public hospital they will often direct you to private care.
They do so when there are very long wait times to see a specialist for example, or if the public system is on strike.

This reality should not be an argument against universal healthcare, it's just an issue of a lack of doctors mostly.

This is false.

I work for one of the biggest hospital networks in all of Canada. Literally all hospitals are public except for like 80 in all of Canada. And those private hospitals will still just bill the province if the patient has a provincial health card. Most of private hospitals are specialized like shouldice where even Americans come for hernia surgery.

Public hospitals can't go on strike . Most hospitals have like 5 different unions and nom union staff with different bargaining agreements Nurses are unionized under their provincial regulatory and can't strike.

Hospitals aren't directing patients to go anywhere , because every hospital gets a lump sum from the province and outside of what the foundation brings in all other money comes from billing for services. So if I go to the hospital for a MRI, the hospital bills the province the Ohip rate for that service. Directing a patient to another hospital is lost revenue

The fact that some people will argue against it is baffling.
Do you know how fukked up Canada is? We are resource rich but tax everyone and everything like crazy. 6 million can’t find a family doctor. Wait times at hospitals are terrible. People dying waiting for surgeries. Had to bring in 4m ppl the last couple years to prop up the economy. Its not going well.

I would not follow Trudeau’s model. He’s a flipping idiot.

The reason there is no better health care system is solely because of republican opposition, they oppose any type of universal government health care system to help the citizens they see that as helping moochers and lazy people and being tyranny, which is asinine

:mjlol:

Democrats nuked the public option

I don't think anyone is arguing against anything, I'm just calling out the reality of how people over simplify it

Listen, I said they will direct you to the private sector, I have no knowledge of how the billing works afterwards.
But I know people that both had it covered and some where they did not have it covered.

Like if you go private for a blood test you won't get it back.

Public hospitals can't go on strike . Most hospitals have like 5 different unions and nom union staff with different bargaining agreements Nurses are unionized under their provincial regulatory and can't strike.

This is false, I know unionized healthcare workers that went on strike.

And for your other point I know people who got directed to private.
I am telling you this as a fact.

Man, shyt is strained here now. I make an appointment and it's always 4-5 months out. Dentist, general practices, etc.

These places haven't recovered since Covid and won't.

What is the European model? I don't hear too many complaints across the pond, mostly praise. Issue is any change means people who like making money lose money.

My moms has surgery last year...her appointment was 3 weeks out after her doctor appointment.
I dont believe in most of these dying waiting for surgery stories or BS wait times its never happened to me.Alot of that is conserv idiots telling lies online.

I was at St Joes hospital last week in the city,no waiting middle of the afternoon.
