You said this before the storm hit. Hope people took heed.

I feel bad for the people who're gonna get shell shocked once they realize that their homeowners and renters insurance won't cover flood damages. After my cousin got flooded out memorial day, I made her get a flood policy since she wanted to stay within city limits.

Right. I believe flood insurance is typically separate from regular homeowners/renters insurance.

My friend already going through it. Water got into her house and she doesn't have flood insurance. Said when she got the house they told her she didn't have to get it :snoop:

That's interesting she didn't already have it.

I live in 254 (Central TX) and I was required to get flood insurance when I moved into my apartment last yr

Yep. It is.

And it's rarely offered unless specifically asked for which is why it's important folks who live near any type of body of water and/or suspect they live in an area prone to flooding to initiate the query and purchase.

Almost all of Houston is flat like a board..

I guess it depends on the complex?

I was surprised too but we all wound up chipping in at the end to help her get back on her feet.

That gut punch you get when you have to start over from scratch and depend on others for basics is a humbling experience
Happened to us during Rita and more than a few family members exposed themselves as true pieces of shyt. Luckily we had most of our things in tact and were able to be self sufficient through the rebuild process.

It was tough but you do what you have to do and become better for it imo.

Stay strong houston people, it will be a long process but you will bounce back.

Exactly. Even if they tell you you don't have to get it, get that shyt anyway. Rather be safe than sorry
