Right. I believe flood insurance is typically separate from regular homeowners/renters insurance.

My friend already going through it. Water got into her house and she doesn't have flood insurance. Said when she got the house they told her she didn't have to get it

And it's rarely offered unless specifically asked for which is why it's important folks who live near any type of body of water and/or suspect they live in an area prone to flooding to initiate the query and purchase.

Almost all of Houston is flat like a board..

I can see some apartments requiring it. But for a homeowner, they have to do their due diligence and get it themselves.

I was surprised too but we all wound up chipping in at the end to help her get back on her feet.

Happened to us during Rita and more than a few family members exposed themselves as true pieces of shyt. Luckily we had most of our things in tact and were able to be self sufficient through the rebuild process.

It was tough but you do what you have to do and become better for it imo.

Stay strong houston people, it will be a long process but you will bounce back.
