I'm not the biggest 'Haitch fan but he scratched and clawed his way to the top, a lot of his on screen work wasn't, and isn't, to my liking but I can't hate on a guy doing that. Wrestling is a shady business, self interest is paramount to be a success. There's no saints in that world and to say you can get to the top without employing some, or all, of the tactics he did is naive.

Vince bought out Stampede and brought in Bret, Anvil and Davey Boy all at once. All three were given similar tag title pushes, Bret and Davey stuck out.

Bret lobbied for nothing, how far did Davey go? He never got the world title. He won the IC belt and that's it. Anvil never did anything when he left Bret.

Bret never refused to job to anyone other than Michaels, and I don't know any stories of him "controlling story-lines." If you have specific examples and proof to back it up, post it and let's take a look.

This was all punishment for the curtain call, he wasn't "paying dues." Vince couldn't punish Shawn because he had nothing but him and Bret when Luger, Nash and Hall left, so he punished Triple H.
