Well..I was watching the NwO/Sting over the WWF when that kicked off..I was watching Sting slap around the NwO the following year and the Goldberg streak was a great storyline. In 1998, the Rock was red hot and everyone was copying him...you included. So he definitely was a draw and him getting his own show and video game the following year..as well as Rock Bottom 98 PPV more than proved that 20x over.
