Highlights from the pre-NXT Heatwave media call.
Capping off WWE’s upcoming weekend in Toronto, Ontario, Canada is NXT Heatwave. Going into the show, Shawn Michaels hosted a media call and fielded questions related to the event, WWE and their collaborations with other companies and promotions.
When asked if there is going to be a TNA presence at Heatwave, he could not delve into specifics, but brought up WWE working with the company, GCW/Bloodsport and Pro Wrestling NOAH. He hopes those relationships lead to more opportunities for younger talent.
In regards to Gable Steveson and Drew Gulak no longer being with WWE, Michaels said from what he understands, Gulak’s deal was coming up and there were no plans for him to go back to the main roster. He spoke highly of Steveson but said if it’s determined there is no future for a talent on the main roster, it is his understanding that from management’s perspective, they’ll opt to move on after a few years.
Michaels would go on to state that he does not think it’s realistic for NXT to be on the road every week for television.
He spoke highly of Je’Von Evans, who’s co-headlining NXT Heatwave. He said he does not have the immediate desire to go to the main roster. He views Lola Vice as someone in that same bracket, who could become a star one day on the main roster.
