It's really easy to not find the family compelling (outside of the son ) which I think will make or break the movie for a lot of people . They aren't particularly sympathetic or loving . That is the issue of the movie . I think a lot of reviewers are being really unfair to viewers by making it like Ohhh your unintelligent if you don't love this . The atmosphere and authenticity is great but it's not interesting and doesn't have compelling characters to me.

The new yorker made this point in an article i just read:
"Viewers who grew up with the “Scream” franchise, or with the toothless array of “Saw” films, will doubtless fidget and sigh at such ambivalence. They will rightly ask if “The Witch” even deserves to be called a horror flick"
It was pretty ballsy of A24 to release this wide instead of platforming starting at the indie/arthouse joints ink

Yeah.. very ballsy. Because this really should have just started at indie/arthouse theaters.
Green Room on the other hand, looks like it could do well with a wide release.
Green room hasn't grabbed me yet. I know it should since i love A24 and its the same director as blue ruin but
for now'Green Room' looked very interesting......nicely shot and acted, I like that dude from 'Fright Night' and 'Like Crazy', this whole 'backlash' regarding 'The Witch' is just sad.....Incredible horror, and just a great movie, regardless of genre...
This movie was mind-numbingly dull.
That family didn't have one compelling character in it.
Slow-panning camera shots doesn't make a scene better no matter how many times it is overused.
Nothing made a lick of sense from the witch's motivation to Black Philip objectives to Thomasine's switch to the dark side.
And by the end I was mad at myself for even paying to watch it so I don't even remember if they bothered to explain what happened to them obnoxious twins after The Witch took them.
I guess if you slap some British accents and pretentious camera work on any old pile of shyt it automatically gets elevated from schlock to art.

Trailers look very good so I'm still hyped to see this. As long as it's not "assassination of jesse James" slow burn, I think I should be good.

It is an indie flick. Remember it's a sundance hit. And sundance is the independent film festival

Well shot, very ominous and tense, kinda reminiscent of The Shining in that regard. Eggers pays great attention to detail
