@Heretic already laid it out. We've been in the hunt every year. 2020 we were decimated by injuries early on. You can't predict what or when the window will look like.

To me, there's an important difference between having a shot in the playoffs -like in 2021- and having a squad that's playing at a level above 99% of the league that has all their playmakers available. The window for the latter is now, imo.
I don't doubt we'll be in the mix for a while unless everything goes to shyt like with Harbaugh, but for things to look they've been looking the last 2 playoffs? I don't think that will be realistic for long. Next season might be the last one and who knows with injuries.

In fairness, we got decimated at home by the Ravens with everyone healthy. I'm not saying we can't beat every team. We have the talent to beat everyone. But the idea that we are head and shoulders and will steamroll, I don't see it. This is a great team but it's not the '94 team where it was obvious we were killing everyone in our path.

I mean, I said 99% because the Ravens have proven to be the exception. And yeah, this is the NFL, anyone can get beat in a win or go home scenario. But having the potential to dominate almost every opponent -and proving it can be done during the regular season- is not something that will last long, and that's why I think it's now or never with this current squad
I guess what I'm saying is that this version of the 49ers "has to win". And other versions of this team will have me "well, we could win if". And that's an important difference in my book.

considering Niners schedule is always some away games (or night games at home) in the beginning of the season because of the shytty stadium vip boxes/sun, I think we should be fine
