The regular season hopes you are right, but we learned with Jimmy that we still need a QB that at least shows up on 3rd down and doesn't throw dumb picks in the playoffs. Brock showed he could be that guy last year but I understand people being hesitant.
Right, making a deep playoff push and winning a SB is a different standard than not going 5-12. A team with an elite defense is never going to go 5 wins, even with a totally mediocre QB. You need good QB play to win a SB.

Yimmy wasn’t a bad QB like Brock isn’t a bad QB. But they are very limited to the type of throw they can make on the field, and those limitation will eventually always bite the 9ers on the ass at some point.

Shannys offense is predicated on the Dink and dunk quick game. But the purpose of dink and dunk is to bring the defense up so you can hit them over the top. Problem with Yimmy and Brock is they can’t hit teams over the top consistently due to lack of arm strength.

Brock will be exposed as early as week 1 just watch
Brock last year showed a broader toolbag of throws than Jimmy showed since his ACL tear in 2018. Jimmy only needed a little bit more juice for us to win the SB, Brock's improvements over Jimmy should bump this team into the green.

I don’t see any difference in arm talent between Brock and Jimmy. Jimmy might actually have a stronger arm right now. Brock can make more plays outside the pocket, but once again is limited in the type of throws he can make in that scenario due to lack of arm Strength.

Brock you take away the left and middle of field and force him right and force him to make plays from the pocket he will become an interception machine.

You see it. and if Shanny sours on him (he has a history of this), Darnold becomes his next project.

Brock's weakness by far is arm strength. If he had a stronger arm, he would not have gone last in the draft.

What white QB you know of with a cannon or even good arm goes LAST in the draft.

He had some throws last year where you could see it too.

But the tangibles and mobility are great.

Forgot to add in Shanny getting QBs hurt. :francis:

If this shyt backfires in Shanahan and Lynch's face, they need to be on the hot seat next season.

Im fine with Brocks armstrength - can it be a lot better ? Of course, its his weakness. But for like 85% of the throws its not needed.

Im fine with Brock being Jimmy+ with mobility and more command of the offense. I dont think people realize how much more dangerous his mobility and pocket movement helps the team

When CMC came in, even Jimmy looked better than average. We have some crazy YAC monsters in Deebo Kittle and CMC. And BA is no slouch there either.

We really needed a QB who could execute Shannys concepts and get it to open guys, and when things arent open, improvise. Brock can be that guy at the minimum salary.

Brock has two things that are elite- Jimmy only had one, his release. Brock has short area burst which is elite , and also eye manipulation of defenders which is insane for him being a rookie.

Darnold has far greater arm talent, but his football iq is in the negative. God help us if Darnold needs to become a starter for a few games. That guy is the worst type of :smugfavre: there is. He doesnt have Favre or Cutler arm talent but thinks he does and makes unexplainable, unneeded throws.

meanwhile in Houston....

Texans S Jimmie Ward (hip) did not practice Thursday.
Ward has now missed two-straight practices to begin the week and is at risk of missing Sunday’s Week 1 matchup against the Ravens. While Ward’s injury isn’t believed to be serious, it’s possible head coach DeMeco Ryans gives him additional time to heal up. Safety Eric Murray would likely serve as Ward’s replacement if he’s unable to go.

I Just hope this isn't Linsanity 2.0, that's all.

And God no to Darnold.

But we all know the chances are high that we'll see him this season. :francis:
