I know its not what ppl here for but I liked seeing her backstory and I think it fits into a larger theme/idea about the show. Ppl choosing their own destiny and changing. Jake is doing that and even Sato. Sato used to be a broke fisherman and basically stated he been sturggling with that aggro yakuza lifestyle. Show escalating and everyone doubling down on their choices though.
Apparently she plays a important role in the ending.

Anyone who likes this need to check out the outrage series. Great yakuza films. I seen the first already and it’s fire had has no gaijins

Takeshi Kitano joints. Great JP director. He's won a bunch of awards for his work but if you wanna stick to cops and yakuza shyt his first movie "Violent Cop" in the 80s put him on:

Sonatine was his first big hit internationally and I think to date might be his most successful:

And just for thecoli, he also did "Brother" with Omar Epps. I think ppl are mixed about this one but it's stylish as hell. Worth a watch for the suits alone lol:

Besides Tokyo Vice, the only film/TV show that I've watched that features the Yakuza is Black Rain (1989) with Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, Ken Takakura and Yusaku Matsuda. That was a dope movie :wow:

I've watched a few Korean movies with Yakuza in them but they are only minor characters or have a cameo appearance. So I don't count them.

IF you don't mind some oldschool shyt, some classics:

Battles without honor is a series of 5 movies set in post wwii japan and basically popularized yakuza subgenre of movies. Same director that did Battle Royale decades later (ended up being his last movie before his death). Sympathy for the Underdog is great, he did it before the battles series.

Episodes 6 & 7 were good. Samantha's ass is trifling :martin:

Show Kasamatsu (Sato's actor) needs to get more Hollywood gigs. He's the real deal.

Next episode is the last episode. There's no way that all of this is going to be resolved in that episode. There has to be season 2, right? :jbhmm:

Shows with subtitles have to be really good to grab my ADHD brain. How’s this holding up?

I don’t think HBO is in a rush to cancel any shows on there.
