If you forever compare every single rapper to Tupac, Biggie, Nas, and Jay-z you are going to come up short. Not because those guys aren't great but because they will never be those rappers. Lebron will NEVER be Magic or Michael. Shaq never was Bill Russell. These rappers will never be those rappers. That doesn't mean they are not making good or great music to people.

On top of that I see a lot of old heads complaing that music now doesn't give them that same feeling as they were younger. When you are older and you are trying to advance your career, pay your bills, and take care of your family a song that comes in that time in your life isn't going to hype you up the same as one you might have been listening to say summer of sophomore year when you were hitting parties, getting high, fukking girls, and enjoying a more worry free life.

Sadly I spend more time paying bills to Lupe Fiasco or sitting in dead stopped pulling my hair out traffic listening to Kendrick. Its not the same as ditching class and listening to Redman after scraping weed money together among a few friends.
Shaq is better than Bill Russell

I think the problem is the Internet and Technology. Back in the 90s to actually get your shyt out there you had to be good. But in this Generation anyone can make a beat in FL Studios , rap and release a album. Rap / Hip - Hop is over saturated as fukk rn.

I think one of the biggest problems today's rappers have is as simple as this: they don't have good voices. Whether it being a unique voice or a powerful voice, or just plain sound good. Like, this is music. You don't need to sing, but if your voice isn't good, sorry by default you're not gonna be a great. Dudes like Method Man, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Jay-Z Black Thought all have either unique voices or powerful voices. Today's rappers all sound like Big Sean and Lil Wayne. A bunch of little punks. I'm exaggerating, but you don't have dudes like Method Man or Biggie.

That's why when I first heard Tyler the Creator's Yonkers, I was like finally, someone who sounds different and good. I'm not even a fan of the dude overall, but he sounded like a hip hop vet on that track, like he been in the game for over a decade.

The other thing today's rappers don't have his mic presence and charisma. But that's been the theme of the 00s. Most of these rappers too scared to look corny so they play it safe and release boring ass material and have boring personalities. They're either tame backpack/conscious rappers, wayne/drake knockoffs, violent trap rappers or drill rappers. Or rapping like Future lol.

OP I know we disagree on Kendrick, so I won't get into it too much, but partly why I think he's one of the only great rappers right now is because he's confident and does stuff other rappers would be too self-conscious to do.

bruh when i take the best rappers out right now, not some filler rappers, i mean the stand outs, you cant tell me they sound anything alike.

Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick, Big Krit, Jcole, Jay Electronica, Curren$y, Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Badass, Flatbush Zombies, Fashawn, Ab-Soul, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Danny Brown, Los, Cyhi the Prynce, Childish Gambino, Isaiah Rashad and such all sound nothing alike. And they all CONSISTENTLY release nothing but heat.

Tyler the Creator has a distinguishable voice.

This guy is an original. But he's too quirky and smart/stubborn to bend. He's also well into his 30's now.

most nikkas who dont like rap nowadays dont even listen to shyt tbh. i have a friend who unanimously hates new school rap, but doesnt even know anybody, and everytime i play music in the whip "bro who is this?:whoo:". after afew rides and me just putting him on to people i changed bruhs entire perspective.

the funny shyt is this: i can groove to the well produced, LCD trappy mind numbingly odd nikkas sounding like Ecuadorians shyt. But that would entail me not being in control of the music. And why would I, An absolute savant, ever relinquish that sacred role?

@SirBiatch

you summed it up rather well. Generic music for generic people. Young Thug makes odd noises vocally but he's unnerving. Cole is awful. Drake is the manchurian rapper. Kenji Babar flopped crazy.

I'm pro based god since he cursed Flames Farten.

Some of you guys refuse to give Kendrick any credit.
Is it a case of not wanting to admit a younger "cat" can compare to the music you listened to or a boner for older music that prevents you from seeing the quality out now?

Its a fact that hip hop has been in a major decline year over year. It has nothing to do with being old, it's those that lived thru it can see what it is.

These kids are coming up on Young Thug, he's was the hottest thing out last year. He's so fukking terrible and yall swear he's nice.

I came up on the chronic, doggystyle, Illmatic, ready to die, tribe called quest. Do I need to keep going?

You actually think that the hottest act in 2014/2015 is better?

I might be flabby n sick, but at least I don't have God awful taste in music and can clearly see what's going on.
1. None of you nikkas buy albums
2. Half of you nikkas don't listen to music you complain to be put out
3. You're a bunch of hypocrites

wanna blame this era of Hip Hop on the artists? There's tons of music out there with substance you fake ass nikkas just ain't supporting it.

The music industry went into the decline once they invented Bearshare. nikkas don't buy albums anymore :camby

So thr quality in thr music declined as well
