I used to be in QD, Lennon and Jazz been closed, I took an offer in Shenzhen instead. I was there all summer and LOVED IT. Never had a problem, a lot more african americans there, and like minded people. We actually sat down and discussed our social life in China and we all agreed we really haven't had any problems. I know a nigerian guy that has, but well, he's in south china what can he expect.

edit: oh and there's loads of africans at yechao. they come from Huangdao Uni, in fact 1/3 of Yechao is black (well at least before the remodeling, now I think they go to another venue) and I didn't see them get targeted. Yechao had to close down for a brief moment cause chinese men were going to Yechao exclusively to beat up white dudes. If you lived in QD you knew that. It was big in QD 2 summers ago.

oh and don't think the chinese don't know about the white man and his arrogance. they smile in your face, but trust me, theyre not stupid. Based on my observations, Chinese people abroad are all very cautious and prudent when it comes to fights and arguments, afraid of being deported. They don't like tan skin on THEMSELVES because of its historical reference, but that's not to be mistaken as hatred for people of color. I cant stress that enough. Nor do they whiten their skin 'to be white' asians, believe it or not, can be more white than white people, they have had skincare since before they met europeans. That in itself, folks saying their trying to be white, should tell how people are trying to tie western racism with their ignorance for chinese culture is absurd.

something I learned very early due to many frustrations with living in the region is that you can NOT use western reference to try to understand Asia. Asia is like being on an alien planet, trying to see the shyt the way we see it, is wrong. They act, do, say things differently than we do. For example if someone touches my skin and tries to rub the black off, that's not racism. That's ignorance. I have been to africa, and trust me, they will do the same thing if you have white or yellow skin, they will say things like "your yellow hair is bizarre", "your blue eyes are scary" they will even say "why do you smell like that" but are the africans being racist? no, of course they're not, they're just fukking ignorant. Its like if you went to some alien planet, the aliens will more than likely analyze you, touch you, and be at awe at your being. Same thing.

Are some cities like Beijing racist? hell yea, they're racist toward Russians, Nigerians, Indians, and it's all because of the social issues that those people are bringing to BJ. Same goes for Guangzhou, but to say ALL of china or to generalize 1.5 billion people, is very very irresponsible and ignorant.

Its not racism, its ignorance, fear of the unknown. She just doesnt know any better. I think that chinese bus driver was afraid of the unknown with the Sir Lankan guy I dont think he had general disgust and hatred, like the guy was a dog, and he didn't want to touch a peasant type thing, I think he was just genuinely afraid, and for us that's hard to understand.
