Malignaggi on Sparring McGregor: Good Power, He's No Dummy!
Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi has officially joined the training camp of UFC superstar Conor McGregor and the talkative Brooklyn boxer was impressed by the Irish fighter's ability in an eight round sparring session.
McGregor will see action on August 26th, when he takes part in his first ever boxing match against the comebacking five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Mayweather, 40 years old, is returning after nearly two years of being retired and he's tabbed as a tremendous favorite to win the contest.
One of the biggest concerns for McGregor fans, was whether or not the MMA star would be able to carry over his power to a boxing ring with much bigger gloves being used. The Mayweather bout takes place at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds and the fighters will use 10 ounce gloves.
The sparring session had even bigger gloves, likely 14 ounce, and Malignaggi praised McGregor's power.
"Eight rounds, good work. I can’t disclose too much but McGregor is no dummy... There’s a method to his madness. He has an idea of what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, he’s not clueless. He’s not your conventional boxer by any means but he’s capable and his power is good. Whether that can be effective is up to him, but he’s no dummy," Malignaggi told Michael Woods of NYFights.com.
McGregor also made the Nevada State Athletic Commission happy. The NSAC has confirmed that he completed the 25 hours of community service imposed by Nevada officials following a confrontation with Nate Diaz during an August 17th press conference from last year. McGregor spoke with children and teenagers in Dublin about ''physical and verbal bullying.''
