Usually, indeed it does. Usually. There are exceptions (things like Transformers, though the 1st one was decent).
Aliens - Rotten Tomatoes
there is a reason it has 100%
Why don't you go check out the meter for Alien
Come on, son. People in this country will watch anything. Hollywood been dropping lazy sequels and remakes for years and people watch them. Besides, if you go by sales, even if you think they're not always right, do you really think the top 10 on this list are among the best films ever made?

As for Rotten Tomatoes, again, most of those reviews are written by the same people who I spoke of above- people have been used to watching lower-quality stuff for a long time, plus, most of it is subjective. I don't trust those reviews and prefer to make my own arguments and keep my own opinions.
If you wanna get picky most movies are formulaic, like I didn't see it coming that their entire crew was bout to be merked by an Alien?
Even if we agreed about the formulaic part that doesn't say anything about if it was a good movie or not. Aliens is STILL a CLASSIC.
I agree, most movies are formulaic, and that's a serious problem to me. Alien wasn't formulaic, though- no one who watched it when it came out knew exactly what would happen, they didn't know about the android, etc, plus the design, the larger plot arc, etc, were much more interesting and original than either your average sci-fi or your average horror film. Nowadays, it might not seem like that looking back because it has inspired so many derivative ideas, but if you look at it without all that, you can see it for what it is.
As for Aliens being a classic or not, like I said, we're all entitled to our opinions on that. I'm just saying I think it's more formulaic and thus, to me, just not as good a film as Alien.
