I think some of it is that the Neptunes even admitted that their beats have a 'thin' sound to them. I believe that's the word they used. So their beats don't have some of the warmth and texture IMO of a lot of their peers. I like their production, but I was always wondering why they would choose to have their beats sound a little more thin and airy. Also, since they did a lot of pop music, their sound really makes you think of a specific time, whuch also dates it more IMO.

Still a great production team though.
that's because they were mainly using keyboard stock sounds. that shyt is meant to help you map out ideas. you're supposed to replace them when you actually get to producing but they never bothered to.

While I agree it's one of the hardest beats ever because of that pound on the table just spit bars vibe the shyt was so easy to make lol.

They literally used like 4 sounds from a Korg Triton Drum Kit preset. However that's part of the genius of it. Everyone had that keyboard but nobody made that shyt.

It's kinda wild to me, shyt is so fire too.

True

The hook also had that woodblock(I think) in it that was dope too

But yeah I've always preferred Timbaland's production over the Neptunes

I really loved this beat when it dropped, and I don't even fukk with 50 like that at all. I still love it

This is another classic

How you gonna compare mostly hit singles with album filler obscure cuts?
Exactly! Disingenuous. Don't post U Don't Have To Call or Give It 2 Me. Leave out Frontin'. Timberlake's Justified. Didn't scratch the surface yet.

Tim was always the better producer, He's hands down one of the greatest if not the greatest programmer in music. He along with Dr. Dre and DJ Quik were the ones who made urban producers focus heavy on engineering and sound quality.

Plus most producers nowadays are just starting to implement techniques like musical transitions at the end of songs that he has been using for like 20 years. Matter of fact alot of The Neptunes sound is based off of what Tim was doing in the mid 90's with the synths and hyper percussive drums.

Baaically this, ive been saying this about both these producers and nikkas threw pebbles because of they names....."you cant say that about neptines:damn:"....majority of those early 2000s keyboard computer beats sound like nonsense and trash today.....the onky thing timeless in hiphop is bass and soul....neptunes couldnt master either so they catalogue is in shambles.....and the shyt that did have bass they smothered that with a variety of goofy ass sounds:laff:....shyt is trash mane, and timb wasnt much better in that era,Dirt Off Your Shoulder is still probaly top 3 most embarrasing beats i ever heard in my life:scust:
Dirt Off Your Shoulder is heat rocks breh. I agree that most "Keyboard Beats" of the early 00's sound wacky and lame largerly because they were being made by cats who weren't pianist/keyboardist. But most of Tim and The Neps' work don't fit that category. And as for Timbo, he's not a keyboardist yet he still managed to make dope as beats using them.

you must be trolling me,after i tell you my hate of Dirt Of your shoulder, you follow that up with a song I have pure hatred for known as HeadSprung:pachaha:

Breh, did you or did you not hear a shoulder brush sound effect in DIrt Off your Shoulder:mindblown:....to make it even worst he actually lines it up to coincide with Jay-Z saying "Get that dirt off your shoulder(shoulder brush sound effect)"....one of the most ridiculous, corny things I've ever seen done on a beat before. Unless somebody can convince me thats not the sound of a shoulder being brushed off, aint no changing my mind on this shyt:martin:

:francis:Eh. The thing with Neptunes is the fact that they peaked after In Search Of to be honest. Their "bling" sound was kinda bland even for its time. Once Chad started to do wonders with the keys and guitar, it was a wrap :wow:

:ahh:Those futuristic tunes breh

Its funny how the Neptunes branded themselves as the sound of the future but a good chunk of they're beats sound dated today.

I'm not saying its a bad thing...they got classics and had one of the GOAT runs in music of recent memory. They're melodies/Bridges are top notch but imagine if they used different keyboards instead of the Casio which is weak as shyt lol.
They're drum programming is:wow:. They got them drums that make a nikka snapback and get whiplash. If they're synths/pianos was as good as theyre drums...they would really been monsters:wow:

I think it's also how they use it...look at Mannie Fresh for example. Back in the glory days of Cash Money he was using the casio? I believe and none of those beats sound dated at all.
