"the difference is the schools were good"
He's not attacking it, though. He's actually creating a straw man and attacking that. Anyway, lazy is not a word I'm putting into his mouth. Have you read any of his books? He's pretty clear about what Black culture is, and laziness is one of its main components.
I feel you, man, but don't even waste your time getting angry at this sad excuse for a black man. All you need to know about Thomas sowell is that he spews white supremacist rhetoric packaged from a black perspective.Yeah it's very shallow logic. It's kind of hard, to sit back and feed into the long held narrative of blacks being lazy not willing to work; than try to later derive that as the primary reason as why the African American community has long been at a disadvantage and is presumably in the state it is currently in. Growing up during the the middle part of the 20th century Sowell should know better than to use quantum leaps in his logic in regards to blacks systematically being discriminated against throw jobs, "owning businesses", property, redlining, etc. Not to mention blacks had to endure the fear of lynching, which broke up many families and businesses. Attempts at organizing through groups such as MLK's nonviolent peaceful coalition and the Black Panthers militant brigade; still brought out the worse fears in the "general" American public, in regards to blacks organizing to the point where the government agencies sought to how to dismantle and undermine this agency.
man.....I'm going stop before I end writing an essay. I'm genuinely pissed at this dude now. This speech is a pure slap in the face to what my grandparents went through...
Thomas Sowell discusses his newest book, Intellectuals and Race
How so?Very intelligent dude but totally misguided about the role of race and culture in the advancement of black people. Also, roll back welfare... really?

Why does evidence need to be produced to dismiss something asserted without evidence? He claims there isnt any evidence, empirical, statistical, or otherwise that supports the benefits of "diversity", yet he provides no evidence to the contrary. His theories for the assorted struggles in black communities dont range much further than blaming "gangsta rap" (black people arent the exclusive audience of rap, Tom), and using the anecdotal example of Dr. Ben Carson, of which, apparently, one black success story completely defeats the narrative of racial bias. Interestingly, he makes no mention of any progress among black folks, after 400 years of govt. sanctioned cruelty.

LOL...the optics and dishonesty of this video play out like one of those cheesy Kevin Trudau infomericials. Its pretty sad that an "intellectual" such as Dr. Uncle Tom Sowell cant even conduct a 30 minute interview thats not riddled with contradictory logic, and blatant mistruths.
He starts off clumsily linking progressivism (and only progressivism) with white supremacy. There isnt any purpose to this given that he would later completely eliminate racial domination as one of the causal factors for inner city dysfunction. Oh...well, the fact that hes a prostitute for conservative white folks probably helps us explain why he spent 15 minutes rambling about "liberal racism", so I guess there's that.

The interview of course retreats to conservative america's favorite topic: out of wedlock birthrates. While the topic is certainly relevant, Dr. Tom cant resist being dishonest by failing to point out that the birthrate ratio has HELD (black children were three times as likely to be born out of wedlock than white children dating back all the way to the 50s, before great society initiatives) firm, which plainly suggests that are many intervening factors at work, and not their convenient and simplistic partisan scapegoating.
If you were unclear how tethered Dr. Tom is to white supremacist thought, he removes all doubt by making the claim that the black family was stronger during the antebellum south, which is a aggressively despicable. Overall we're supposed to believe that slavery and jim crow, and the countless modern ways racism insists itself on black people play NO ROLE in their maladaptive outcomes, but of course welfare leaves them no choice but to fail, and thus must be removed.
Dr. Tom is Jesse Lee Petereson with a few credentials, and plenty of Bill Cosby sweaters hanging in his closet.
