Black folks love Will and Jada. Stop that shyt. In fact, name one black celebrity that has a negative Q rating with black folks. It's probably only Chris Brown, and that's just barely. Above all, we support our own, no matter what. Especially if they come under fire from white folks.

Michelle Rodriguez isn't a star. You pay to watch F&F movies for the action scenes, which overrides the two minutes of Michelle Rodriguez in the movie. If Vin Diesel and Paul Walker left the franchise and Letty Ortiz was taking over as head of the franchise, you'd stop watching those movies with the quickness.

Are you fukking stupid? :dwillhuh:

Half the shyt on this board and the debates in the black consciousness is about how we DON'T support out own and how no race is SO fragmented...you just invalidated your entire argument with such a asinine statement.

And WHITE FOLKS love Will and Jada, other wise there would be no possible way Will's movies could make so much money. This topic, however, is about why people criticize them so much. Has nothing to do with their money or body of work.

We don't support those who aren't established; the indie cats who might be doing great work but don't get recognized. But the big names, the mainstream celebrities like Oprah, Will, Denzel, Tyler, Beyonce etc, we support them.

I saw After Earth on Friday afternoon and the crowd was 95% black.

:what:

Most people don't support indie shyt regardless of race or ethnicity.

The main problem with indie films is that they're independently made so they have less money to work with in order to promote their movies. Independent films also open in far fewer theaters than big budget films.

People can't support things that they don't even know exist.

And guess what, white people support those names as well, without that support they wouldn't be "established". Supporting your own MEANS supporting the lesser names, not just who's hot.

Breh, this topic is not about do black people go and see their movies. My statement was about why people HATE on Will and Jada and their kids...and its simply because they are "weird" black people to most of black folks. Will is a scientologist, Jada is in a metal band, Jaden kicks it with Bieber and wears his sisters clothes, and Willow is just....odd. People talk shyt about them all the time just check MTO.

Not necessarily true.

You see Wes Anderson, PT Anderson, and Noah Baumbach make money all the time because they each have cult fanbases. But gifted black directors like Ava DuVernay and Barry Jenkins struggle nowadays to get even a half million dollars for financing their films. Why? Because studios know we're not gonna go see those movies. We'll gladly go see Tyler's movies though.

Wes Anderson's earlier films didn't do well financially at all. It wasn't until later than his films started turning a profit and even then he need star packed casts in order to make that happen.

Wes Anderson hasn't done an true independent film since Rushmore. All them other shyts have clearly had studio backing, they just had smaller budgets.

And you know damn well there's more to it when it comes to black films being greenlit. Some of the biggest names in black cinema can barely get movies made.

Also like I said before, people can't support things that hey don't know about. Spike Lee movies don't even get the same level of promotion that a Wes Anderson film would get.

And people need to stop over-hyping how BIG Tyler Perry's fan base is. His fan base is actually small, they're just dedicated as fukk and there is enough of them to more than cover the tiny fukking budgets his films are made on. There's a reason why the following week Tyler Perry films have significant drop of in the amount of money made the following week.

Two supposed "indie directors" who have significant studio backing and have a bunch of films that don't even earn their budget at the box office.

I'm sorry but if you consistently got legendary comedic actors and Oscar winners appearing in your films you're not an independent film maker, somebody is helping you do that shyt.

There's a difference between being an independent filmmaker and making a film on a small budget.

Maybe it's just because acting is a craft and Jaden basically skipped the "paying dues" part and jumped directly into leading roles....most celeb kids still started with smaller type roles. He needs time to hone his craft and let audiences warm up to him, Will did this on Fresh Prince. Instead it's like we're being made to care about this kid for the sole fact that he's somebody famous' son. What happened to Colin Hanks after Orange County?

Eastside of that Motor
I think Jaden has real talent, I don't really see that as Will putting him on more like him using his resources to get a foot in the door :manny:

Now Willow on the other hand has -8% talent, they doing their best to make her some kind of star :scusthov:

49ers..Braves..Celtics
:snoop: always trying to look for some deeper meaning behind it all.

The reason the movie is failing is because the trailers were shyt and nobody takes Jaden Smith seriously as a leading actor in a big blockbuster type movie. Karate Kid.. that was at least an established franchise with some name value.

This has terrible CGI, a kid actor who is not good, Will, who everyone loves, sitting on the sideline and in addition is directed by one of the biggest flop artists in recent history. Wow, I am so very surprised it's a bomb.

If Will had made a sequel to say I Am Legend or some shyt it would have made $70M+ this weekend easy.. without breaking a sweat. There is no anti-Will Smith movement. His movies print money. The problem is this was not sold as his movie.. it's not his movie..

No he didn't....The first film he was in he had a supporting role. The second film he was in he also had a supporting role. The first time he got a lead role in a film was Karate Kid.
