lol movie is trash
Black folks love Will and Jada. Stop that shyt. In fact, name one black celebrity that has a negative Q rating with black folks. It's probably only Chris Brown, and that's just barely. Above all, we support our own, no matter what. Especially if they come under fire from white folks.
Michelle Rodriguez isn't a star. You pay to watch F&F movies for the action scenes, which overrides the two minutes of Michelle Rodriguez in the movie. If Vin Diesel and Paul Walker left the franchise and Letty Ortiz was taking over as head of the franchise, you'd stop watching those movies with the quickness.
Are you fukking stupid?
Half the shyt on this board and the debates in the black consciousness is about how we DON'T support out own and how no race is SO fragmented...you just invalidated your entire argument with such a asinine statement.
And WHITE FOLKS love Will and Jada, other wise there would be no possible way Will's movies could make so much money. This topic, however, is about why people criticize them so much. Has nothing to do with their money or body of work.
We don't support those who aren't established; the indie cats who might be doing great work but don't get recognized. But the big names, the mainstream celebrities like Oprah, Will, Denzel, Tyler, Beyonce etc, we support them.
I saw After Earth on Friday afternoon and the crowd was 95% black.

Most people don't support indie shyt regardless of race or ethnicity.
The main problem with indie films is that they're independently made so they have less money to work with in order to promote their movies. Independent films also open in far fewer theaters than big budget films.
People can't support things that they don't even know exist.
Not necessarily true.
You see Wes Anderson, PT Anderson, and Noah Baumbach make money all the time because they each have cult fanbases. But gifted black directors like Ava DuVernay and Barry Jenkins struggle nowadays to get even a half million dollars for financing their films. Why? Because studios know we're not gonna go see those movies. We'll gladly go see Tyler's movies though.

Whooo?
Whooo?
Maybe it's just because acting is a craft and Jaden basically skipped the "paying dues" part and jumped directly into leading roles....most celeb kids still started with smaller type roles. He needs time to hone his craft and let audiences warm up to him, Will did this on Fresh Prince. Instead it's like we're being made to care about this kid for the sole fact that he's somebody famous' son. What happened to Colin Hanks after Orange County?
