There's no debate about this. If you understand gravity then you already know the answer.
A raindrop is NOT that teardrop shape. A raindrop is a sphere as it falls. Why? Cause it achieves a functional zero g state as it falls. And the only mathematical answer to that equation is a sphere.
In the vacuum of space. If an object is massive enough, it's own gravity pulls it into a sphere.
The Earth is massive enough.
