Pac had lyrics but he's right that a lot of people overrate it. Lyrics do matter but not over musicianship imo

Cannabis might have had lyrics but he's an absolutely TERRIBLE musician

Canibus was never a technical marvel. That when the sonic landscape changed. That flaw in skill became fully recognized. Where now canibus was even more offkey than previously. Plus his technical flawed skillset. Made it impossible to be malleable on reel to reel.

That's not true either.

There are amazing rappers that don't even rap to music. The artform in itself is not confined to the GENRES (half the country singers are rapping now) of music that people utilize it in. When you reduce it to just music you devalue the RAP and it's scope beyond entertainment.

Still very much RAPPIN without the backdrop or entertainment value.

This is cap.
If you are not able to pocket a rhyme on key to the bReak.
Plus lack understanding of flash's theory.

By application of rhyme to break.

You are not an emcee.

It is just an unskilled person with words that rhyme.

Plus they are not even a flavor of spoken word.

As spoken word is revolutionized by :

The funky wordsmith [ Bobo and Keith Washington. Whom love Jones is about]

[Keith Washington = Laurenz tate character in love Jones. Is a retelling embellishment of their real life. ]

[Bobo = rip..Isaiah Washington character in love Jones. Is an embellishment of boob's real life before Bobo passed]

Malik yusef.

Where spoken word is not hiphop and is not emcee'n...

I know so because Keith Washington and Malik are my actual social grassroots contemporaries.

From actually being in the wild grassroots.

Where i actually am invited as a guest speaker.

to Keith Washington writing showcases.
To showcase the difference.
between spoken word and being an emcee.

Somebody wake me, I'm dreamin'
I started as a seed, the semen
Swimmin' upstream, planted in the womb while screamin'
On the top was my pops, my mama screamin' stop
From a single drop, this is what they got
Not to disrespect my peoples, but my papa was a loser
Only plan he had for mama was to fukk her and abuse her
Even as a little seed, I could see his plan for me
Stranded on welfare, another broken family
Now what was I to be? A product of this heated passion
Mama got pregnant and papa got a piece of ass
Look how it began, nobody gave a fukk about me
Pistol in my hand, this cruel world can do without me
How can I survive? Got me askin' white Jesus
"Will a nikka live or die?" cause the Lord can't see us
In the deep dark clouds of the projects, ain't no sunshine
No sunny days and we only play sometimes
When everybody's sleepin'
I open my window, jump to the streets and get to creepin'
I can live or die, hope I get some money 'fore I'm gone
I'm only 19, I'm tryna hustle on my own
On the spot where everybody and they pops tryna slang rocks
I'd rather go to college, but this is where the game stops
Don't get it wrong cause it's always on, from dusk to dawn
You can buy rocks, Glocks or a herringbone
You can ask my man, he's a mind reader
Keep my 9 heater all the time, this is how we grind
Meet up at the cemetery then get smoked out
Pass the weed, nikka! That Hennessey'll keep me keyed, nikka
Everywhere I go nikkas holla at me, "Keep it real, G"
And my reply 'til they kill me: "Act up if you feel me!"
I was born not to make it, but I did
The tribulations of a ghetto kid, still I rise

This is why people kill me with that "Pac wasn't lyrical" nonsense. Brother definitely knew what he was doin with a pen and a pad.

Love it whenever these 2Pac Lyricist discussions pop up and I get to re-post this.

What Pac didn't use much of (if any) were metaphors

What? With all due respect, this post tells me you don't know what a metaphor is or have a very limited scope of what it means:

How are these not metaphors:

I had my mind full of demons tryin' to break free
They planted seeds and they hatched, sparkin' the flame
Inside my brain like a match, such a dirty game

I disagree, to a degree.

Firstly, I see rap as an artform as it's own seperate thing from Hip Hop as a culture. People were rappin before Hip Hop was a thing and the fact that you can utilize rap in your music without nessecerily being Hip Hop means that they aren't mutually exclusive.

Not to say an MC shouldn't be able to catch a beat and ride it but saying it's "just music" is reductionist and to the advantage of the game/industry when you frame it that way. Especially seeing how there is an MC right now living off their craft without the industry or even the music at times.

It's the reason why the only thing I love more than rap is stand-up...because all those componets that go in to rap are present save for rhyming and even then, great orators still need to find the right tonality and rhytms to move the crowd. It all comes back to authentically expressing yourself through the power of the word. How you saying what you saying.

Pac could move crowds without a beat, without a rhyme even, let alone with 'lyricism'

But however you see you know it's respect OG.

No.
This is that eight mile lie.
That people who flaug.
Then try to rap. That makes them wack.

Hiphop is the cultural connection to how you have what would become, the business of rap.
Where rap has been misappropriated.

From the emcee.

This whole divisive idea to exclude hiphop culture and the pillars of emcee'n.
as well as rhe pillars is blasphemous.

It is the contributing factor.
to how dysfunction has become perverted.

Through misappropriation.
Plus you are endorsc'n culture thievery as well.

It is the main reason.

Why ruthless records runs rhe world. Where that misappropriation has gone so awry. That the prison industrial economy complex. Is the scourge to American life it is.
