It's not that lyricism is overrated, it's that people's idea of what lyricism and why it's important is distorted as fukk.

Willie D saying it like he said is only going to further de-prioritize artists like 2pac who's strenghts lean on the RAP and not "vibes"

A lot of these new fans don't even really like rap for real, it's just that other types of music ain't as prevalent

Pac was always a lyricist, just not multi-syllable like others. Plus he made everyone feel his music thru emotion. But look what’s popular now so it doesn’t matter. Only old heads care about it.

This the type of thinking that has hip-hop in the state it's in today.

Y'all can cry about NY elitism all you want, but them nikkas set the standard and they should never have been guilt tripped into accepting wack nikkas into the fold
When meth rapped about greens and ham on 36 chambers, i knew they'd never be topped:banderas:

He's right about 2Pac.

Pac is definitely a lyricist.

People say he's not because he doesn't do that cartoonish, goofy ass punchline shít.

"You sweet as a glazed ham, and if I don't got the burner, you gettin' tazed, man, so like a pimple, stay outta my face, man":mjlol:

Makes sense. Dude was a poet. Not the heavy metaphorical type lyricist, but Moreso poetical one.

Kendrick is proving this wrong, #1 rapper in the game and a lyricist through and through

Its just a slow grind, nikkas have to just stay committed, a lot of nikkas take shortcuts or give up, like big sean, or have a bad string of luck dealing with the industry, like krit

But if you really that nice on the mic, that music lasts forever and will be more appreciated when its all said and done

Kendrick knows that writing a great song is key to being a lyricist. This doesn't come at the expense of his flow or delivery.

Kendrick also did say

“fukk being a lyricist, I want you to feel this shyt”

That line is low effort but still lyrical in a sense. I don’t think anyone really listens to Pac to get super lyrical bars from him.

Pac was metaphorical though. That is a huge aspect of poetry. The meaning of metaphor is often lost in Hip Hop because it is equated to punchline heavy rappers and overlook when it is done in the proper poetic sense of the word. "Shed So Many Tears" has a lot of metaphors. Without the metaphors, the imagery isn't as strong.
