nikkas get mad when you say you're tired of this shyt

Just make dope music people can enjoy

This dude out here recording therapy raps

nikkas we not trying to hear that wordy shyt where you aint saying shyt

that spoken word shyt is annoying and condescending

I'm cool with the conscious topics if they're done right. shyt like Father Time was dope and the last verse on Mother I Sober was incredible.

But this last album was clearly an example where he was leaning into it way too much and sacrificed actual entertainment value just to make some artsy shyt.

And I got a theory he dropped this album because the expectations for new Kendrick music was so high that he knew he wouldnt meet them if he made another regular album like DAMN. That's why he went completely left field so the critics would still give him props even if social media hates it.

J Cole has been a popular rapper his entire career but only in the last like 4 years have I given him his "due" because I thought he finally started delivering on his claims to be a quality MC

Cole used to be on this same shyt before on a much smaller level and people were calling him self righteous and preachy.

I remember he even said God (yes, GOD) helped him finish writing KOD. Like are you kidding me man. And people eat this shyt up more than they actually listen to the music.

I don't respect what "public" values of popularity are.

This is why I mock so many people on here. They dont have their own opinions.

MY EVALUATION OF THIS shyt = TRASH

My dude, DO YOU respect what kendrick has done? Do you like it? Or are you just gonna tell me what others are saying about it? :gucci:
respectfully all the things you're speaking towards here have nothing to do with what i addressed

i had no comment on what you were saying until you made the claim that some arbitrary "we" is not trying to hear that

my response was an acknowledgment to that being untrue when you consider that the general public clearly is trying to hear that

The only thing that kind of concerns me, perhaps on a small level, is the Dave Free stuff. He's smart, most of the shyt he did at TDE worked, loyal to Kendrick etc. But I can't help but look at that picture and immediately think about Suge's "all in the videos, all on the songs...dancing" line. This artistic vision is clearly his, and completely different from how Kendrick traditionally was from S80 to even DAMN. Yea perhaps Kendrick's style has simply changed or evolved which would be fine, but I just get the sense a lot of this is Dave.

Even when Kanye was going harder into art shyt he still had that "sophisticated ignorance" balance that kept him in tune with the streets. Anyone who has met Kendrick will tell you dude is straight up Compton. Not to say he isn't into art and shyt but...dude is Compton, and is literally surrounded by gang dudes. So you'd think if anyone could do the Kanye type balance shyt it would be him.

One other concern is that I haven't seen pgLang do anything outside of Kendrick and Keem. Both are doing well, they made a shyt ton of money on that tour that just ended (probably grossed at least 80-90mil). But this doesn't really seem like a label to me. They aren't signing people, Kendrick isn't doing interviews, there is no "crew" vibe, I don't get it.
I dont know why you think kendrick wouldn't be into art

He's always talked about different authors and artists that inspired him in his music

Like how overly dedicated opened with that sample of dash snow talking

That's why I wasn't surprised mr morale was inspired by a guy like eckhart tolle

That's just the other side of kendrick

Hes a compton kid for sure, but why he can't be artsy too? :mjpls:

Doesn't mean it isn't corny at this point.

Like dude made a song about how he's not a savior and then popped out with a diamond crown of thrones at a fashion show. shyt like that is goofy to me. You're a rapper, your priority should be to make good music, but instead we get one album every few years and all these theatrics inbetween where you're acting like you been touched by God or some shyt.
Nikkas deserve this for letting him get away with "interviewing" Pac on To Pimp A Butterfly:russ:

Cruisin’
he was never even top 10

few hits

pure hype

nothing resonates outside of the CORNIEST bars

what are we talking about? :gucci:

Again, whats your FAVORITE bar on the last album?
I haven’t heard his last album. I’ve heard drakes last. And it’s my fave Drake project. I hate most of his other shyt. Cornball crying Drake is annoying to me. Controversial shyt talking Drake is actually entertaining

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
He is the greatest rapper of his generation, not even close honestly.

J.Cole is dope, but too inconsistent, doesnt have a classic album
Drake doesnt write his own lyrics.
Forest Hill Drive is Cole's classic. And it's insane to say its not close as well. U speaking on consistency but Kendrick took a whole 5 year break.

what does evolved mean?

Drake has literally gotten better as a rapper. Kendrick is rapping dense poorly written meandering shyt and yall calling it deep because YOU ALL DONT READ BOOKS AND HAVE POOR VOCABULARY
In subject matter yes. Drakes flow has gotten better but Kendrick based on subject matter has went from rapping about what he grew up on the mindset collectively on the black community to generational trauma and mental health. Drake has been rapping about the same bytch that did him wrong since thank me now thank me later with a little ego boosting here and there. Drake talking about droppin bodies now at almost 40 when he wasn’t rapping that shyt in his 20s.

Kendrick didn’t have the mindset back in section 80 or good kid maad city to make a song like Aunties diaries. Thats growth as an artist.
