This isn't really a great example, but yeah all the extra shyt that Kendrick does for his image is really annoying and pretentious.

It's gotten to the point where if you don't like his music people act like you don't understand it or that there's layers to it.

He's a dope artist but he's completely aware of how marketing yourself as some musical genius does more for your music than the actual music.

Kendrick already had that respect after good kidd madd city though. His latest turn may be pretentious, but he was already seen by many as being the best in the game after GKMC. None of that respect has to do with this latest pretentiousness. The pretentiousness is a result of the respect.

J Cole has been a popular rapper his entire career but only in the last like 4 years have I given him his "due" because I thought he finally started delivering on his claims to be a quality MC
