Very graphic:

I've been reading and hearing a lot of cheerleading lately about war. I've had to see things like this up close and personal. I've had to shoot people. I was also wounded during my first of two combat deployments. I'm honestly not saying this because of any narcissistic attempt at glorification. My message is not about pacifism, because I am not a pacifist, and I am certainly not making a full judgment on all wars. I'm not a person that advocates non-violence at every turn, and I think violence can be a solution. I'm merely trying to give you a glimpse of what people go through. It isn't just a statistic on a screen or piece of paper. There are real human elements and sometimes even I forget that, though I've been in it myself.

As hard as it is, sometimes we can't lose focus that this isn't a game of chess. I have no issues with grown men who willfully engage in combat to meet such demise, but there are peripheral victims in warfare. Videos like this provide a earnest and painful look into what happens.

As I grow older, and time widens the gap between the present and my experiences, as well as now being a father, I can't help but be sad and emotional over not only this video, but the memories that linger in my mind of what I witnessed.

As the war in Syria (or conflicts around the world) continue, realize that even military acts or interventions you deem noble or necessary are bound to incur further casualties of children. Take that into consideration always. It's hard to lose sight of that, and I'm the first one to admit that sometimes I do.

Just my two cents.

But yeah seriously, the level of indifference we have towards war is quite frightening. Good ol Atlantic Ocean.

I've always thought its really a telling sign when the generations who survived vietnam still go hard for war.

Metal Gear Solid 4. I have a friend who told me a story jokingly about how he was on patrol, talking to his friend. The vehicle stopped for wahtever reason and they continued talking. As hes looking his friend in the eye, his head basically deflates like a balloon from a high powered rifle. As he lays there twitching and bleeding the vehicle takes fire from a building next to where they're parked. This goes on for about an hour and they had to shoot shots randomly to let people know that they were still alive because he said he could hear people approaching the vehicle. Thankfully their reinforcements came to bail them out. I was surprised he was able to talk about it so jokingly considering it was one of his good friends but thats war.

Its so demonic, friends.

Saying, "out of sight, out of mind" would've sufficed. It's why we overreacted to 9-11, nothing ever affects us here. War has long been a movie for those who don't have to experience it or who don't have a family member involved in it. I still remember my cousin :smh: @ that "shock and awe" spectacle.

Contrary to my love for pornography, retelling my old hooker tales, borderline-misogynistic musings, video gaming, objectification of women, and overall immaturity at times, I can assure you that I love my family very much and I try to be a loving husband and father always. I don't even know where I'd be without them. Corny I know, but honest truth. They bring the best out of me.
