This guy was the most racist character in Dragon Ball.

The One Piece panel is a poor translation though. I saw the anime episode of that issue and he clearly said "Afro" (the hairstyle) everywhere where this translation says black. Oda the author has shown a level of decency in his depictions of black characters:

This character is actually named Black :mindblown:. I think he's the worst.

The clip TS posted is from 1993-4, not the 80's. There's no excuse for that shyt.

Actually, black isn't too bad. His lips are a little big, but for the most part he's not over the top or embarassing.
Yeah he's a villain, but he may be the only competent red ribbon general. He also held his own briefly against a mystic enhanced goku so I respect him. I'd take him over Killer and Popo anyday.

That's true, he was actually smarter than his cac boss and never came across as a buffoon. Toriyama is a fukkboy for killing him "Black" though.

Despite kishi's hackish storytelling I got to give him credit where it's due.

The man has done more to appeal to black manga readers than anyone else I can think of. I like Killerbee and Raikage eventhough they both mad ******ish.

That's just shop, the name of the series is naruto and the creator is masashi kishimoto. It's sort of like dragon ball z but gayer with ninjas. He created a whole village full of black ninjas. Killer bee is basically a rapper/ninja/wrestler. His brother is the head ninja in charge of their village, he's a wrestler or something and they got like a tag team going on.

I don't think either one of them are wrestlers. They just happen to have a clothesline as their double team technique. Haven't seen them do any wrestling moves in combat.

I had actually seen that Davy Back fight episode a few months ago and yeah, there were no mentions of black, just afro...but I'm not sure if its purely a translation issue or if that's something that was changed from the manga. I don't think Oda is a racist/ignorant or anything like that. Fishman Island arc was at some points very similar to Civil Rights era, with the leaders having personalities a bit similar to MLK and Malcolm X, he even had characters dressing like the KKK at one point. The main issue would be (like with other Japanese citizens) the lack of awareness of some racially sensitive subject matter, but that's not surprising since Japan is such a homogenous region.

:patrice: You know, I can live with that. It's stereotypical, but it's kinda flattering.

Oh, I'm not insulted, I'm just tripping how over the top they described our athletic gifts, lol.

Can't forget number 1 and Vergo, Vergo's a brother, right? Usopp is suppose to be black or something. Odra draws a lot of gonks in general, so it wouldn't be too far fetched for him to thrown in some ugly black folk. Pirates aren't the prettiest people as far as I can tell.

I don't think Usopp is supposed black. His hair is a giveaway.

His father is definitely not a black character.

Not in the series, but Oda said if One Piece was in real life the characters would be:
  • Luffy: Brazil
  • Zoro: Japan
  • Nami: Sweden
  • Usopp: Africa
  • Sanji: France
  • Chopper: Canada
  • Robin: Russia
  • Franky: USA
  • Brook: Austria
