in the entire history of WWE going back to Bruno, the first heel to ever carry the belt for an extended period of time was HHH. It was a major turning point in retrospect because instead of building heels to get a babyface hot, they started feeding babyfaces to heels to get THEM more heat. HHH started the lucy with he football booking of babyfaces, and the first time we really see his influence in abundance is mania xix, :madbaugh: but thats a conversation for another day.

Look at everyone who has had an extended title run in the past couple of years, at all levels, more than 90 days
  • Shield
  • Owens
  • Styles
  • Brock
  • Orton
  • Punk
  • Miz
  • Bliss
  • Charlotte
  • Roode
  • Ascension
  • Rollins
  • New day
  • Ryback
  • Big e
  • Curtis axel
  • Wade barrett
  • Cody
  • Ziggler
  • Rusev
  • Reigns
  • Kallisto
  • Cena (us)
  • Sheamus
  • Ambrose (us, heel)
  • Cesaro
Of that list, kallisto, new day for half, cena and maybe cesaro, i dont recall, were baby face. Thats insane. No babyfaces other than that have been champ for more than 90 days. NXT has had a couple but even they are getting like that

Current wwe title holders

  • AOP
  • the GLORIOUS Bobby Roode
  • Jinder mahal
  • Brock lesnar
  • Usos
  • Owens
  • Asuka
  • Cesaro and sheamus
  • Bliss
  • Naomi
  • Carmella with the case
  • Baron corbin with the case
One babyface champ in the entire fed. Thats insane. Fans like the chase sometimes but good lord, no good guys have belts???? Thats unforseen.

What are your thoughts on this movement, and how it impacts business?

Good topic. It's definitely true. Not all of Punk's 434 day reign was as a heel though, just about half of it or maybe less.

The thing is, the WWE has seemingly forgot how to make a good babyface. They try to force guys down people's throats which just leads to a backlash. Sami Zayn has the potential to be someone who can be a top tier babyface, but he's stuck dancing all stupid & losing on TV at every given opportunity. Same goes with Bayley.

It's really baffling how a company that created Bruno, Backlund, Hogan and Bret Hart can't make a new babyface without it being some sort of anti-hero ripoff of Steve Austin.

The "get sympathy" and "idiotic babyface that falls for tricks" schtick is weird. Who is even protected in wwe as a babyface?

  • Balor (who did a CLEAN job to reigns)
  • Reigns who is really a tweener, and they even had him get that work from strowman
  • Naomi at the moment
  • roderick strong who is gonna get killed by roode, clean
  • Nakamura at the moment

Everyone else is food or 50/50

Speaking on this note, I love how defeated the Takeover crowds get when AOP hit that first powerbomb before The Supercollider. They already know what time it is.

Speaking of AOP, I'm surprised they didn't give them the Braun treatment and move them from PC to the main roster. Already have a talking piece and the "look" Vince desires.
