This deserves its own thread: WWE is now a heel territory and its 100% because of HHH

I agree with the point that the WWE can't make a good organic baby face anymore but I also feel like those days in general are over. Since the late 90's, can these kind of characters exist anymore? Feels like going backwards from Stone Cold to Hogan in characters and it's just not wrestling but all over TV and movies. The anti-hero as the protagonist is what is in, and even recently I've found shows now moving over to making leads completely void of any respectable traits, and seeing how far we will support them. A good guy now a days would look like Ironman, someone who does the right thing but is still an a$$hole who looks out for himself and his interests

This isn't entirely a bad thing in my view, it all comes down to how the booking goes. The thing is, the fans turned on Hogan. They turned on Cena. They turned on Roman before he even got the chance to have a lengthy reign. So you can't book babyfaces to be completely dominant anymore either, times have changed. People are haters. I guarantee Bruno Sammartino wouldn't work in this day and age, people would say "shyts boring" etc.

You have to mix it up. Austin and Rock never had lengthy reigns, they would win the title and then somehow get screwed out of it, rinse and repeat.

Exactly. I think what makes buys into a protagonist these days is that they are simply just that - the protagonist. Not insinuating that everyone should be a tweener or whatnot, but I think what works for an Iron man or a Rick Grimes is that there are layers behind their characters. They're ultimately good, yes, but sometimes they may do questionable decisions or look out for their own interests. The days of the "can do no wrong" babyface is simply outdated and boring. No one is like that in real life, so how can they relate? I think adapting a more modern approach in writing these wrestlers would greatly benefit everyone getting the necessary reactions.

The chase can be good, but you but you have to get top faces over too, at some point if they get the football pulled away on some Charlie Brown shyt one too many times they eventually just look like a goofy and people aren't that invested.

This is not surprising. I remember around the time Edge won the WWE Title for the first time Paul Heyman who I believe wasn't in the WWE at the time had gave an interview telling everyone that "the rise of the heels" would happen in wrestling.

Fast forward a decade later most heels are getting cheered and faces getting boo'd in America meanwhile heel groups like Bullet Club and Los Ingobernables are the biggest merch sellers over seas. Paul saw this coming....

Ivan Koloff was a heel

Thing is fans changed and the writing is terrible

Roman shouldn't lose often but fans boo every time he wins

The damage that triple h and Stephanie have done to the company knows no bounds.

The heels are always subordinate to them as well :mjlol:

Remember when triple h won the title from Kevin Owens by eliminating the two other big new guys they had (Rollins and reigns):hhh:

The neckbeards are also to blame for this problem. If the guy comes out of the Indys, the fans automatically love him (see Cesaro). If a guy comes out of WWE Development, they have a hurdle to climb with the fan reactions (see Roman Reigns). Would Cesaro & Roman Reigns be getting the same reactions today if Cesaro came out of developmental & Roman was wrestling in ROH 10 years ago? I don't think so.

Batista had to go through this too. Lucky for Batista, they hid him away on Smackdown during the brand split so he wasn't as shoved down everyone's throat like Cena was.
Roderick Strong comes in to heroes fanfare. Kenta...Jesus, NXT should be DESTROYING him by now...itami has been terrible.

They're two of the only pure babyfaes over and it's all because they're Indy/Japan guys.

I don't have a problem with it. Heels should win more than they lose. Makes a babyface win more important and anticipated (in theory, but WWE booking sucks).

I mean nWo was getting that a decade before all of that so the concept wasn't foreign.

Yeah but given the fact that the nWo were never meant to be cheered, a part of me back then thought once the nWo were truly over it would be back how it was again but the crowd's mindset never switched back.

I don't really watch NXT regularly, but the disparity of talent on that brand disgusts me even more than this babyface/heel problem. But that's a different thread topic.

The other big problem is inconsistent booking. They book these babyfaces to consistently lose to have this huge payoff, and then the writers/Cokeboy get impatient & blow up the entire angle in the middle of the progression which makes the struggling babyface look like a complete loser now that the feud is over before the big payoff. I can name two instances off the top of my head where it's happened: Cody Rhodes vs. The Authority & Dolph Ziggler vs. The Authority.
