Last 15 minutes last night were brutal....That's where "The Americans" excels, in a darkness where many who watch television don't want to go, the raw violence of a hard hit to the face to a past middle aged woman, dressed in some sort of housewife jumper, the way she pleads for her life, the way Phillip is inclined to give it to her. The confusion and sorrow of regret, the harsh unforgivingness of blood and revenge. Phillip's face throughout, and Elizabeth's simple words at the end showcase a miserable world of agony and violence. That whole scene hit me, with a sickness about violence, death, morality of "good" and "evil".
