They're on Burna Boy's head for "appropriating" black American dances and gear

Even worse, they're "unsanctioned."
Those are nasty Timbs :sadcam:

Those aren’t Timbs - they’re LV boots.

A pair of those boots would buy 20 new Timbs & probably 30-40 Timbs when they’re on sale.

In my way of thinking the answer is yes, but White English musicians have been stealing African American culture too. So I can't fault an African for doing it too.

I understand what you're saying. And in a way, I agree. But I think we have to. Not out of spite or malice, but because we all have to start somewhere. And if we hold them to that standard then we have to hold ourselves to that standard too.

Reminds me of this post (2nd tweet):

Admittedly, Burna Boy has been excessively biting AA culture of late due to the crossover hit, “Igbo & Shayo”. But he had pure Afrobeats hits (mostly influenced by Fela Kuti) before this & they were original.

I believe to him, he trying to bridge the gap by paying homage to AA legends (cos they’re also making money off him for sampling their hits) but he needs to read the room. A lot of the hardcore fans don’t like the new Burna Boy & there’s also push back from the AA community online. So, he would have to find a balance somewhere if he doesn’t want to ostracise everyone.

Also, he’s getting a lot of love offline from AA legends, especially from NYC & I guess they’re the ones telling him to embrace NYC culture. RZA was in his last video throwing up WU sign & he wore WU wear (the video was also shot in BK). RZA & GZA are on his next album. Swizz Beat is also working with him & he’s on his next album. And Diddy co-signed him a few years ago.

And he never said AAs have no culture - all he said is that AAs should embrace their roots (Africa). I don’t agree with the statement based on the current clime since a section of AAs don’t want to be associated with Africa. However, it’s an innocent statement from a guy who can’t read the room. You can say he’s ignorant but he had no malicious intent & the guy has always told whoever cares to listen that he grew up idolising DMX & Wu Tang.

I like his music and I’ve never heard him say black Americans have no culture. I’ve heard him say DMX his is inspiration

He's been moving funny lately

I heard he jacked that Talibans song from the original artist and put it on his own album

What? he’s on Part II - and the artist that made the song pushed for him to be on it:

Ngl I hate the type of artist burna is becoming, I get the marketing behind it but I’m not jacking the transitional switch he’s going through

Just came back from his show downtown :wow: Blacks from all cultures getting along and vibing having a great time

I swear this online beef between Africans and ADOS is so unproductive and stupid :dead:

That City Boys records :wow:

At the height of Black American music over 20 years ago, when confidence was at an all time high..no one in America would have cared that a Nigerian artist was wearing timbs etc.
Infact Black Americans would be praised for having far reaching influence, right.

Burna was told to wear that shyt to appeal to us audiences..standard practice.

But this thread reeks of jealousy and insecurity and I understand why, we all do.
If Africans (along with diaspora Blacks everywhere) didn't talk shyt, we would have never gotten here.

I was being flip earlier, but I have a little more time to address this... gaslighting.

1. If he don't know shyt about the states, shouldn't he stfu on our business?

2. No, he said they have a "base" bc they know where their grandparents came from. So do I. Not to mention, unlike either of the groups he named, we've been here since the 1700's.

3. I don't have to seek it. I have never purposefully listened to music made by this man, barely know who he is, but somehow, he keeps infiltrating my space (and my damn business).

Et tu Brute? Bc the wm do us dirty, that gives everybody else the right?
:manny:

I don't really listen to that type of music. With that being said I have seen White people all over the World use Black people music and the pretend they invented it. So I am less offended if an African does it. It is lame music anyway,, but if those nikka steal the Isley Brothers or Stevie Wonder music then they got to fight.

Felt Kuti was using African American music too.
